I’ve been hearing rumors about an attempted hijack/ or hoax occuring on a Dallas flight to Hawaii that happened this past weekend. I just so happen to be routed through that very same airport this Sunday on my honeymoon trip to Maui, so consequently I’m a little concerned.
Several people seem to have heard something about this, though no one can give me details. I know if it was anything big, the news would be all over it, though I can find no mention of it anywhere.
Is this just a well spread rumor or a hoax that has gone largely ignored by the media?
I live just outside the airport and was at the airport picking up/dropping off on Friday and Sunday last weekend and there certainly wasn’t anything unusual going on. In fact, the atmosphere was very relaxed.
Don’t have a cite, but as a resident of Dallas, and since I had just taken this flight a week earlier, I saw the story on the news and took notice.
Yes, a AA flight (#5 to be exact), en route from Dallas to Honolulu, made an emergency landing in LA due to a box cutter being found on one of the food carts. They unloaded all the passengers, checked the plane out, reexamined everyone’s carry on luggage, and proceeded on to Hawaii.
Later in the day a worker with Sky Chefs said that he had mistakenly left the box cutter on the cart as he was restocking the plane. So, not much to worry about in the end.
Have a great trip. I just got back about a week and a half ago (after celebrating my first anniversary). The flight was about 1/2 full (nice flight, being direct and all, BTW) and where we stayed on Waikiki was pretty slow too, but it was a GREAT time. I love Hawaii. It was my first time there and I’m already ready to go back. Again, have a great trip.
