Was there really a Robin Hood?

The Straight Dope email highlights columns from the archive and one of the recent messages recalled the column “Was there really a Robin Hood?” (http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/887/was-there-really-a-robin-hood).

I think [relatively] recent research has made it easier to believe the late 11th century timeframe and the setting that Stephen R. Lawhead takes as his starting point for the King Raven trilogy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Raven_Trilogy). Perhaps the fabulous Cecil or the smart teeming millions of this board can point to some real research instead of my vague recollections of some articles from BritHist.

BTW, I highly recommend the King Raven trilogy.
