This video is making the rounds of various blogs, and the tag-line is asking if it was “good” shooting or not re whether is was justified by the actions of the gunman. The gunman appears (so far as I can tell) to be obeying the police, but some claim he was going for another gun (the pistol in his hand at the end). I can’t really see that he was, it appears he had both in hand when confronted and looks like he was laying them down as ordered, but I’m just a civilian. Was he going for another gun?
It looks fake to me.
I can clearly hear “GUN” at about 4 seconds in. It looks to me that he was reaching for the second gun, in his waistband, not going to set it down.
He clearly didn’t have it in his hand at the beginning of the confrontation (as he was holding the rifle with both hands).
With that said, it does look somewhat fake, I’d like to see an accompanying news story.
fake or not, in hand when confronted or not; it is an odd posture to reach out one hand to put the rifle down while keeping the other cocked and somewhat hidden at waist height.
don’t you want both hands to be clearly visible and empty when you’re in such a situation?

Beginning to look more like a training video.
It does look like a training video, more so after watching again, because the officer reholsters his weapon long before he confirms that the suspect is no longer a threat.
Yeah, that aspect seemed off when I first watched it. You can tell by the body language that everybody in the situation is far too nonchalant for it to seem realistic. There is no way trained police officers would approach the suspect so casually immediately after the shooting. Also, the “suspect’s” exaggerated jumping reaction upon being shot is kind of a giveaway.
There’s no blood either.
In the circumstances shown, you probably wouldn’t see any. I’ve seen plenty of videos of people actually getting shot by police, and immediately visible blood is generally not a feature of them. Compared to TV and movies, shootings in real life tend to be very undramatic.
I’ve never seen someone actually being shot by the police or anyone else. I have, however, transported many, many gunshot wound patients. Short of the patients with GSWs to the head, there isn’t much external bleeding. I wouldn’t expect to see tons of blood immediately with the injuries shown.
As far as the video goes, it looks like the guy was going for the handgun. IMO, that would be legit based on what we know.
