How old was Dylan at the time?
The behavior continued until he was taken out of her life when she was six. Mia recalls Woody coming to her birthday party and taking her away from her guests and into an empty room. It got to the point where she would lock herself into rooms and refuse to come out when Woody was there. And he kept on with these actions, even after her psychologist told him it was not healthy and to quit it. He simply did not give Dyland any space around him.
The words that come to mind are “obsessed” and “stalking.” Since Dylan and Soon-Yi were living in the same circumstances, I don’t see how he could be considered a father to one child and not to the other. Woody claimed that Mia’s house was “a foster home” and not a real “family.” The judge really lit into him for considering biological and adoptive child-parent bonds two different things.
I’d sell my soul to see how the Woody-Soon-Yi and their two adopted children household works.
Wikipedia says that Farrow accused Allen on TV of molesting Dylan. Obviously not an authoritative source, but it jibes with my recollection. As I said, I was confused about the timeline, but I very clearly remember the media reporting that Farrow had publicly accused Allen; I’d be very surprised if that didn’t happen. I doubt Farrow’s own memoir is the most accurate account of the situation.

Male, here (if the username didn’t tip you off).
As a stepparent, I have rather sharp views on this.

Cheating on your wife is friggin’ despicable. Keep it in your pants until you’ve informed her you want a divorce and are moving out. Whether or not you wait until it’s finalized, well, that’s up to you. Porking someone else without first terminating your current monogamous relationship, that’s an act of betrayal, and cannot be countenanced by a person of class, no matter who he may be boinking.
-
Cheating on your wife with her best friend, sister, or other female relative whom you met THROUGH YOUR WIFE ups the scumbag meter at least three notches.
-
Doing so with your wife’s daughter – adopted or not – not only kicks the scumbag meter up near the top, but moves you into “trailer trash” territory to boot.
Don’t talk to me about love. I’ve heard pedophiles speak of their pure and innocent love for seven-year-old boys and girls still years off from puberty. Love is one thing; action is another. The fact that Soon-Yi was of legal age when the situation happened may get Woody off the hook as far as the law’s concerned, but does little for my estimation of the guy.
cazzle’s point, to me at least, is a valid one. My daughter’s 23 now, and quite the babe, but I still have to work at not thinking of her as a ten-year-old… the age she was when I married her mother. The fact that Woody was willing to enter into a sexual relationship with Soon-Yi tells me first off that he never really thought of her as “his child” to begin with…
…either that, or Woody’s way of thinking is twisted beyond my ability to comprehend, which may well be the case. Either way, the guy’s lost any respect I might have had for him, regardless of how nuts or sane Mia Farrow might be.
There was some evidence that Woody might have molested Dylan–after being ordered by the court to have his visits with her supervised, he disappeared and was alone with her for about 20 minutes, and when she came back her underpants were missing. Dylan claimed in happened in the attic, Allen said he had never been in the attic and was claustrophobic about attics, yet samples of his hair were found in the attic. Mia did have reasonable evidence to make the accusation.
However, Woody’s statements on court documents that Mia accused him of sexually molesting their biological son Satchell are totally, complete and utter BULLSHIT.
Well I don’t think he should have done it, considering that he was married, but it doesn’t go into the realm of “disgusting” or “gross” for me. He didn’t know Soon-Yi when she was growing up, he only met her when she was older, and she was certainly old enough to give consent.
So yeah the family has some weird problems and I think he was wrong, but it wasn’t “gross.”
I’m female.
Eww!!
Sex with a woman?!!
Eww!!
Very well put. Exactly the point I was trying to make, but you’ve explained it so much better.
Cheating = bad. Cheating with a relative or close friend that you met through the spouse = more bad. Cheating with child of spouse = sleazy bad.
And it’s true: love is one thing, action is another. You can* feel *love, but nothing is forcing you to behave in such a despicable, dishonorable way.
I’m a guy (who likes gals).
Bringing up a child to be your next wife qualifies as perverted in my book. If I were Mia Farrow I would have pulled him out of bed by his wang-doodle with a garage door opener (ala the movie “9 to 5”) and then whack him like a piñata will he dangles there. Pictures would follow.
Nope, don’t find it gross, skeevy, icky, etc. Allen should’ve broken it off with Farrow before beginning a relationship with Soon-Yi, but that’s the only part I’d have a problem with.l
Female.
Woody first came into Soon-Yi’s life when she was 10. At what point should he have broken off his relationship with Mia?
Ugh. That is a really disturbing vision. If that is true, the “Woodman” shouldn’t be allowed near a child.
For the record, is the source of your information the aforementioned book by Mia? Or is this documented by other parties?
It was documented by several other people who were there at the time, including Mia’s nanny, a friend who had her children there, and another person. Woody’s hair samples were linked to his DNA, and Mia claims that Dylan herself told her what happened. Take it as you will.
The claim that Mia accused Woody of molesting Satchell is in Woody’s court papers. It simply never happened.
What sort of a person takes nude photos of any woman’s 17 year old daughter (let alone his lover’s) and then leaves them out on the mantle when he knows she is coming over?
I’m with Master Wang-Ka. Woody was Soon-Yi’s father for all practical purposes. In addition, she was TEN when he met her. The fact that he viewed her in a sexual light is icky even after she legally came of age.
As for the cuddling game, From what I’ve heard it was a matter of Woodrow climbing into the kids bed and not the other way around. That pretty much seals the matter for me. A child climbing in with mommy and daddy is completely innocent. A (proper) parent knows better.
And all this on top of the whole infidelity matter.
Oh, and Master, Where can I find a scumbag meter? I need it for work. And how does one quantify scumminess? I think maybe it’s by percentage of volume. A complete scumbag would be 100% scum by volume. If he were only 2% he would be skim scum. Or is there an accepted “Scum-unit?” Woody rates at x scums, roughly equivalent to a kilobuttafuco.
