Washing/Drying a toy (Beanie Buddy)

I just bought a special someone a Beanie Buddy (bigger Beanie Baby) and it got a little dirty in my trunk. How do I wash these things? A picture of the said animal is located here http://www.iluvcollectibles.com/buddynanook.gif This particular one is made of Polyester Fibres and P.E. Pellets in a cloth bag and the outside is like any other fuzzy stuffed animal. As I have never even attempted my own laundry how can I clean this up and have it ready for her birthday tomorrow?

Look at the tag. Most stuffed animals can be safely surface-cleaned with a damp washcloth and maybe a little mild soap. Most Beanie Baby-type toys can also be machine-washed, but that often leaves the nap of the “fur” a little matted. Also, if it’s a new Beanie Buddy and she’s a collector, you won’t want to remove the little heart-shaped tag, because that’s somehow important.

If you do end up machine-washing the thing, you can minimize matting by blow-drying it while brushing the fur.

I looked for the little washing direction tag but wasn’t any on it.

As for the heart tag, being the idiot I am, I ripped it off… but I dont think shes a collector.

I got blood (don’t ask) on a beanie baby once, and I just used some soap and water and it worked fine. I might’ve used a little detergent, but I’m pretty sure I just used hand soap.

I’ve had luck washing stuffed animals, those with and without beans, in the washing machine. I put them in a pillowcase, tie it closed, and wash it on the gentle cycle. After that, I just throw it in the dryer in the delicate setting, but for only a few minutes at a time for the bean animals (only because i’m paranoid about the beans melthing or something equally horrible).

Do I throw it into cold, warm, or hot water in the machine?

Cold water would probably be best. And do be careful if you throw it in the dryer. Too high heat for too long gives the stuffed critters frizzies.

" Let’s say you just got a great new Beanie Baby, but he reeks of cigarrette smoke! What do you do? Easy. Get a gallon size ziplock bag and a bowl. In the bowl put either vinegear or baking soda (not both!!) then, put the bowl in the bag, and the Beanie in the bag (not in the bowl, beside it!!) seal up the bag, and in a couple of days, your Beanie will be like new!
Is it ok to wash Beanies in the washing machine? Yes, but take a few precautions. First, remove the swing tag (duh.) Secondly, don’t wash a Beanie that has parts glued on (Lucky w/ glued on spots, or Spooky w/ glued on mouth) or Beanies that have felt parts (Radar, Crunch, Seaweed, Doodle/Strut, Lizzy, Bucky, Lucky, Grunt, Tank, Gobbles and Batty) because felt can stretch or lose shape when wet. You can wash them in the washing machine, but it may be better to wash them by hand. This can be done by soaking the Beanie in water mixed with a mild detergent. Afterward, rinse it with warm water."
