Washington Mutual stole my money.. what to do about it?

Lot’s of valid points here. I think Sigaas’ point, more than anything, is that they promised a certain action, and didn’t follow through. Unfortunately for Sigaas, that’s poor customer service, and nothing more. It’s very frustrating, but ultimately there’s no remedy. So, Sigaas: it isn’t right, it isn’t just, but let it go.
If you don’t, they don’t just have your money, they also have your peace of mind.
Send them a letter, sit back, and hope for resolution in 2 to 3 weeks. Then don’t use the company again.
And for the record: automatic withdrawals are of the devil, and to be avoided at all cost.

Yeah! It looks like at least 1 person understands what I was trying to get at!

I didn’t mean to imply their failing to follow through really was anything more than poor customer service. Quite honestly, I am more frustrated trying to figure out how I came to be labeled unreasonable here than my dealing with WaMu.

I have no doubt WaMu will refund my money. That part was actually never in doubt. What was in question was how best to get it from them. Am I angry with them? Sure. Did I lose any sleep over it? No. I actually lost more sleep pondering the reactions to my posts than anything else!

I sincerely thank all that responded. I apologize again for coming across as gruff or obstinate or whatever other colorful adjective was thought of about me. Sometimes communication through web postings can really distort things! Then again, I’ll bet there are lots of people who know me IRL that would say there was no distortion at all!

That’s very gracious of you - seriously, anyone willing to say this is very likely someone who’s good to have in this community. Welcome!
