Watching Lesbians and Gays

I don’t want to speak on behalf of all men, but I think we can all agree that most guys enjoy the sight of women enjoying the pleasures of one another - and would leap at any opportunity to partake in the festivities. Why is this? Do the majority of women feel the same about the sight of two guys? If no - explain the difference.

Well, it’s hard to cite sources on this, but it’s quite a bit less common for straight women to enjoy watching two men together - but it’s by no means uncommon. Plenty of women watch gay male porn, and the popularity of slash fiction (fan fiction depicting male movie/tv characters in intimate situations) attests to the fact that it’s not at all unusual.

As for why? Who knows? One popular sociobiological explanation is that it’s perhaps more advantageous for a man to have sex with more than one woman (impregnating them and thus ‘spreading his seed’ a little more widely) whereas a woman can only carry one baby at a time, so there’s no advantage to having sex with more men. Thus, a pair (or group) of women going at it implies some possibility that the viewer could potentially have sex with all of the women.

Of course, that’s a simplistic explanation, and most straight guys I know who are into ‘lesbian’ porn just claim that they find it erotic - sex, naked women, and no naked men to get in the way.

I don’t think there’s any real evidence for the first hypothesis, and I tend to find these evolutionary explanations for behavior somewhat simplistic, but that’s a reason I’ve heard before, and since I don’t think there’s any real scientific explanation for the phenomenon, I thought I’d share it for completeness.

We’ve plowed this ground quite a few times before, and the general agreement was that men are generally more hot for the idea of lesbian sex, rather than the real event.

As my former boss (a lesbian of the tool belt, mullet, and flannel shirt variety) once told me: “Believe me, you don’t want to watch me having sex. I don’t even want to watch me having sex.”

In watching lesbian porn you get to see at least two women going at it. In hetero porn there is often only one woman involved.

Since two is more than one, watching lesbians provides most male viewers with roughly twice the utility they would receive from watching one man and one woman having sex.

I looove the idea of two guys together and I know lots of girls who agree but just as many who don’t. It’s out there but not that commonplace I guess.

Check out this boy touching lj community run by gals.

I’m not following your logic here.

I’m having the same problem, Walloon.

If I’m watching two (or more) lesbians having sex, I can be very, very sure that they wouldn’t be interested in me, as I don’t have a vagina.

Makes sense to me, since more women = more of your babies to be had within the next nine months. I mean, that would imply that these lesbians would actually want to have sex with you, but you know how much of a wishful thinker a penis can be.

As for gay men together… I’ve got no idea. I guess I’ll leave that to the ladies.

Well, in my limited experience with porn, the “lesbians” that are typically having sex are actually bi-sexual - you see the same gals with men in later scenes (or earlier ones, or whatever).

I’m following this logic even less. How would lesbians have sex with each other imply that they would want to sex with the male viewer?

There’s twice as much stuff to look at.

Walloon, looking for logic in sex is is like looking atheists in the Vatican.

Moved to IMHO.

BoyxBoy sex for females is more popular in other cultures. There’s an entire genre of manga (comic) in Japan called Shonen-Ai (boys’ love) that’s entirely devoted to guy pairings. Many of the manga are targeted to high school girls and it’s not considered particulalry out of the ordinary. And it’s very different from the stuff the gay guys put out, tending to involve more romantic storylines and slender, willowy guys as opposed to the gay publications with big, muscley guy who have non-stop hardcore action.

There have been several academic papers that attempt to explain the popularity of slash and shonen-ai. One popular explanation is the absence of any pesky other female to feel jealous of or to compare one’s self to. (who wants to see a perfectly beautiful and slender woman get the guy?)

I wouldn’t be surprised if as many women as men get turned on by watching the opposite sex go at it. I think many women in this culture have always repressed or have been taught to repress those leanings while guys have felt more free to express them.

As a heterosexual woman, I must say…

I have absolutely NO interest in watching two men together; the thought grosses me out. However, I’ve seen two women together (in pornos) and I’m not grossed out.

I can pretty much bet that all of my women friends feel the same. In fact I’ve always wondered why (most) men like watching two women, but women don’t like watching two men.

I’d love to hear a plausible theory on that one.

I get extremely turned on by Queer as Folk. When I started watching it, I had no idea how hot it would be. It was sort of an eye-opener. I have no idea how realistic the show is, but when I envision a gay bar/scenario, I imagine it like QaF. Yum.

Can’t we all just get along!? wail

Females are nicer to look at, so my SO has told me. Seeing two bi-sexual gals getting busy implies that a man might be welcome at some point and darn if he doesn’t become some hapless victim of the two gals taking out their sexual battles on him. OH WOE! Typical male fantasy, the infamous “threesome”. He comes home to find his girl being naughty with another girl and, lo and behold, they pull him into the fray.

Men love women, and seeing more than one naked and lusty, is a turn-on.

I really don’t know. I don’t get it. I like men but man on man action doesn’t do it for me.

See, it’s not more lesbians that’s the big deal here. It’s just simply more women, coupled with a bunch of wishful thinking. Whether or not they’d ever want to have sex with the viewer is pretty much considered later – perhaps while watching a soggy Kleenex swirl down the toilet.

When I think about “lesbians going at it are hot”, what I (and most straight guys, I assume) really think about are mostly straight girls having fun with each other as a kind of warm up prior to inviting the guy in.

Reality is completely out the window. A great line I heard from a comedian I don’t know the name of, “All pornos should be called the same thing: ‘Things you will never do, with women you will never meet.’”

I think the reason I find guy on guy action hot is that it’s two hot guys who are naked and doing sexual stuff.

I don’t have to look at girl parts. (Not that I think women are ugly, but as a straight female, I don’t really care about the women).

I would imagine it’s the same with the guys.

When I think of Luka and Carter together. . . sigh
