Watching television on my PC. Couple of questions.

My WinTV2000 card doesn’t work on my new computer that uses Vista. This pisses me off as I really like to watch TV while I work/surf, and the Hauppauge device was easy to use and worked well. Splitting my Road Runner signal I got all my basic cable channels on it.

Is there any way to get it to work? I just keep getting an error when I try to download the software.

Are there any devices/programs similar to Wintv that will work with Vista? I’d rather not spend a ton.

And What is THIS and THAT all about?

If you’re not averse to USB, this sucker does regular NTSC and ATSC (HDTV) for only $34 with free shipping. I don’t have any experience with that brand, but that’s a pretty damn good deal.

Channels that nobody would ever want to watch for any reason, ever, and absolutely no channels that you might consider watching even once.

The USB tuner Nutron Star mentions is good. Actually, I have an extra Hauppauge 1600 I believe still works if you want it. Message me if so.

As for software, if you have Vista, you have media center. You can use that to set up your card and watch/record/time shift live TV.

Is the problem your card (no drivers for vista?) or the actual WinTV software?

I don’t know. SOME of those channels seem pretty good.

All I know is when I try to load the drivers or the software I get an error message. Hauppauges web page lists my version as one not usable with Windows Vista.

In that case you’re SOL, as far as that tuner is concerned. I hate it when companies decide to do this. 9 times out of 10 it comes down to they just wanting you to buy the newer hardware.

Like I said I have a hauppauge 1600 laying around collecting dust. If you want it it’s yours. And it works just fine with Vista’s Media Center so no need for other software besides the drivers.

I don’t think they really have those channels. Or if they do, they don’t have them legally. Everything about that site screams “we’re gonna rip you off and sell your email address to spammers and your credit card to Russian gangsters.”
