Watching the bubbles in my stout

Here’s something for everyone that’s been told that the bubbles moving downward in Guiness Stout are an optical illusion. http://cnn.com/2000/FOOD/news/01/12/guinness.beer.reut/index.html and http://www.fluent.com/news/pressrel/guinness/tsld002.htm for a pint of virtual stout.

“Popeye? Hm? He’s not much of a judge of women!” King Blozo

been a slow morning, huh, steve?

MMMMMM, Guinness.

I love Guinness.

I wonder how my boss would feel about me installing a tap in my desk?

Semi-slow but I always check CNN.com

There ya have it. Science as poetry.

“What do I believe in? Not much that can’t be proven by logic and scientific experiment, and you better believe, I want to see the logic and laboratory equipment.” --P.J. O’Rourke–

And I had always just thought it was divine intervention that brought the bubbles down! Now I have absolutely NO proof that there is a god!

I never heard that this was supposed to be an optical illusion, so i don’t see what the mystery is. Also, wouldn’t it be easier and more definitive to use a camera to take a motion picture, and view it in slow motion?

…nevermind. I was poking arund the fluent website. This was publicity for fuid dynamics software. Possibly they did take movies to be sure the software worked correctly, and just don’t mention it.

It is too clear, and so it is hard to see.

Padeye, don’t post an OP like that the day of the Phoenix gathering unless you’re prepared to move on from Coffee Plantation after a while (assuming special also agrees). You’ve put me in the mood for a black-and-tan (only 1/2 a Guiness, I know, but still…).

Motion picture cameras can easily be fooled by certain kinds of motion like the wagon weel effect where spokes appear to turn backwards.

Strainger, nothing says this has to be the only Phoenix gathering. We can get together for stout another time if not after the coffee bar tonight.

I’ll be easy to spot. Look for a big fat bearded guy in a green polo shirt wielding a video camera. I think I can dispense with the white carnation and secret password.

Come let us go, I’ve a cask of amontillado.

True, Padeye. I guess I’m just not used to having gatherings with SDMBers that I actually live close to. See ya there!

They could get a high frame-rate camera.

long wong’s right across the street, ya know. & fat tuesday’s next door.

Just wanted to mention: Padeye, I dig your sig line man! I think I’ll pass though
