As some of you know from another thread I started, I’m trying out a low carb diet. One of the effects of the diet for the first couple of weeks is that excess water and salt is lost through urine. I forgot the reason why.
But I was thinking in general, salt apparently increases water retention, right? Why?
Why do people retain water at all or more at some point less at another point?
Is it related at all to the starvation response? If you go into starvation mode where you reduce your metabolism do you also try to retain more water in case it won’t be forthcoming in your diet?
