The crimes may be no wiser, but they are happening more now.

The FBI report for 2016 isn’t out yet. If only there was a nonprofit of some sort that tracks and aggregates reports of this kind. If only.

So much to address. First, why do I give no credence or respect to the SPLC? Because they don’t deserve any.
You’d scoff if I offered any conservative criticisms of Morris Dees and his fellow frauds at the SPLC, so I’ll stick to leftist sources.

Morris Dees is a scam artist who has enriched himself through scare tactics. He makes a very nice living by yelling “Booga booga! Your link says nothing about the NYPD’s opinion about the rise of anti-Semitism, and I am still wondering about why only gravestones in that one tiny area were effected.

You’re correct, the NYPD says that incident was not vandalism.
Now, again, how does that contradict their earlier statement that anti-Semitic hate crimes in NYC have surged in the last year?
[personal anecdote] For most of my life I socialized with Berkeleyites, academic types, ex-hippies, and science/technology professionals. I can’t recall a single instance of anti-Semitism — though conversation seldom drifted to where such sentiments would be revealed.
I retired to Thailand and tended to socialize with whatever (mostly middle-aged or retired, mostly British) Westerners were available; conversation was diverse and candid. I was surprised to find that anti-Semitism seemed more the rule than the exception! I asked one why he hated Jews — his reply was “They’ve been hated for thousands of years; there must be something wrong with them.”
According to the ADL, the wave of threats is continuing, with more bomb threats to various JCCs and ADL offices. Hopefully they turn out to be hoaxes.

Could somebody take a look at the picture in the link and here and explain to me what the lines on the S’s mean? Is it something Nazi?
