Waylan Smithers- gay?

A discussion of Homer being gay without this bit?

Mr. Burns: I want to be loved.
Homer: Oh…okay. Well, I’ll need some beer.

The sexual orientation of Simpson’s characters is like the location of Springfield. It changes to suit the writers and is something of a running gag. E.g., Milhouse obviously has a crush on Lisa (which continues into adulthood in the fast forward episodes) but looks a little too comfortable in high heels, a dress and wig. Rod and Todd peek at Lisa taking a shower on the patio when the bikers invade but Flanders thanks Bart for not outting them in the Indian Casino episode.

Has Marge ever exhibited lesbian tendencies? For some reason, Marge seems to be one of the few untouchable characters as far as sexual ambiguity goes, but I also haven’t watched the show in years.

“Girls, Lisa. Boys kiss girls.

Since we’re discussing the sexuality of Simpson’s characters, I’m surprised that no one has brought up Troy McClure. Now he’s unique!

2 Mobsters discussing McClure:
Mobster 1: “I thought you said he was dead.”
Mobster 2: “No, I said ‘he sleeps with the fishes!’”

In the same episode McClure marries one of Marge’s sisters, but only as a beard. When she asks him if he’s gay his reply was something like: “I wish I was gay, that would be acceptable!”

Yes and all of the fish tanks in his house. Doesn’t Kent Brockman also mention him having deviant sexual tendencies in that episode?

You didn’t also notice the original name of the drink? The Flaming Homer?

my two cents:

The Williams plays kinda seal it for me

Blanche DuBois (Streetcar) was once married to a gay man.

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (ages since I’ve seen it) also gives us our crutch-using protagonist who may or may not be gay. If I remember correctly, the last half of the play is a lot of shouting about what is friendship and what is love between men.

But we also know Smithers is terrified of women because of the way Burns told him his father died- a bunch of wild Amazons.

There’s a list of hints and innuendos about Smither’s sexuality at this site:

http://www.snpp.com/guides/smithers.sexuality.html

Most of the lines there have already been mentioned here. One telling scene that I didn’t see here is Smither’s once mentioning that he tried to march in a St. Patrick’s Day parade but wasn’t allowed to. There was quite a fuss a few years back about banning homosexual groups from marching in the NYC parade.

Which, of course, has since been contradicted by the episode where they find out that Smithers father died of radiation poisoning and had been dumped in the quarry.

I thought that was the joke- that Burn’s coverup lie about Smithers father’s cause of death is what “caused” Smithers “alternative” lifestyle.

Right- that’s the joke. Same episode, too.

Don’t have the exact lines, because I’m not half as obsessive as I used to be
