Wayne Rooney was just stretchered off the field in the match against Chelsea. He doesn’t normally go down and he looked to be in a lot of pain. John Terry and Joe Cole were also injured in the match.
It doesn’t look good for Rooney and England.
Mourinho says that somebody from Man U told him that it wasn’t too bad and Rooney would be OK for Germany. Fergie was more circumspect. I’m off to sacrifice a goat to the football gods, or whatever it takes to get the boy fit.
Shit. Fractured big toe. There’s no way he’s going to recover in six weeks, and there goes whatever chance England had, he’s really that important to us. Perhaps it’s time players stopped wearing paper-thin boots, because there seem to be an awful lot of metatarsal injuries these days.
Sorry, it’s apparently the fourth metatarsal (toe) not the big one. Still gonna hurt, though.
Damn. There go our World Cup chances for another year…
Of course, as an Arsenal fan, I don’t really care too much at the moment. 
Eh, it’s a blow, but while he’s a dangerous player he wouldn’t have won - or lost - a game on his own. It does leave us very short of decent match-fit strikers, but I still think we’ll see the usual England pattern at the World Cup: tedious draw, heroic win, narrow defeat, then knocked out via a single set-piece or on penalties in the later stages.
I did find it interesting that there was no foul called on the play and it almost appeared the referee was thinking Rooney was trying to draw a PK. I’m not an England fan, per se, but would prefer that all the best players are available for the cup and this will be a loss.
Still, some reports I read tonight say he might be back after the first two group matches, which England really should win anyway, so maybe it’s not the worst possible scenario.
