There would have to be a separate “Mod For A Day” forum that wouldn’t tie in with the other forums. People would post in it knowing they were subject to the rules and whims of the MFAD, but the notes and warnings wouldn’t be put into their profile.
Actually, such a forum would be a good way to test out potential new mods. Stick them in there with temporary sock names(to avoid public embarrassment), and let them have a go sometime between a day and maybe a week.
Pictures linked from other picture hosting sights that are not a PITA like Photo Bucket turned into but pretty ad free like ‘Google Pictures’ does not load the servers does it.
Hosting the pictures is the expensive thing when needing the storage space and the amount of content being hosted.
No. Linking to pictures on anther site causes your browser to fetch that image from the other site, so the server load for the picture is on their site, not ours.
There are two multipage threads here in ATMB, where the solid consensus want the Mods to change a ruling. A good way to go forward and get the members to buy in, is to *listen to them. *
Ok, I found “suscribed threads”, but there’s nothing there. I’m not sure how you suscribe to a thread (I assumed that “suscribing” meant I would receive a message in my email every time someone posted in the thread, and since I had no interest in that, I never tried to figure out how to suscribe).
First see if you have automatic subscription turned on:
Click on the ‘User CP’ in the menu bar to get to your control panel.
On the right side of the page, you should see a column called “Your Control Panel”
Towards the middle, select on “Edit Options”
In the “Messaging & Notification” box, see what the “Default Thread Subscription Mode” is set to. If it is set to “Do not subscribe”, change it to something else. Now you’ll automatically subscribe to threads you post in.
After you have subscriptions setup, you can find the threads you’ve posted in after that point from your User CP. It initially shows you the threads that have been updated since your last visit. There’s also another link for “View All Subscribed Threads” which will show your older threads.
You can also manually subscribe to a thread by using the “Thread Tools” dropdown at the top of the thread. There will be an option to subscribe to the thread even if you haven’t posted in it.
Admins: What is the default subscription setting for new accounts? It should probably be set to subscribe with no email notification.
2 weeks in and my query to “advertise on the Straight Dope” is still unanswered. In a business sense, this is the most worrying of all… what entity, engaged in the business of selling ads, ignores a request to advertise?
