The hubby & I lost our precious Blue earlier this year. It was horrible. We’d had her for maybe 10 years of our 12 together. At first he wanted nothing to do with a house pet, but she quickly got him wrapped around her little paw. She was “his” cat. Poor blue went quickly, and it was heartbreaking. Late night trips to the 24-hour animal hospital, expensive treatments with little or no hope, and finally the agonizing decision to let her go.
Now for the good news! I talked him into adopting Niagara. I’d stopped by PetsMart a few months ago on a weekend to get my “kitty fix” and saw her there. The sign on her cage said that she was about 3 years old, had been adopted from the agency, but given to a neighbor when the adopters had to move. The neighbor was allergic, so she was returned to the adoption agency. She called out to me as if to say, “I’m here, no need to look any further. When are you taking me home?” But we weren’t ready yet.
Just a weekend or so ago I stopped by the same PetsMart and Niagara was still there! The woman from the volunteer agency said she’d been depressed, was losing weight and losing fur. She needed to be rescued, and soon!
We brought her home on Saturday, and she spent most of the day under a chair in the living room. The hubby (who again claims that he wants nothing to do with a cat) remarked that when he reached under the chair and “tickled her foot,” she rolled over and acted cute. He’s hooked!
She slept on the bed last night and “squoke” me awake. She warming up to both of us. Niagara is beautiful, and I cant wait to put some meat on her bones and see her gorgeous long tabby fur grow in full. I’ll post pics as soon as I can. In the meantime, she’s still on the adoption web site, so you can view her here.
