I kept coming across comments on Reddit where people wrote (as I said before) that they expected tens of millions of deaths in the US alone. A lot of posts of this kind. I find it exaggerated. It isn’t going to happen.
Where did I say “We didn’t have NEARLY the amount of deaths we’d have had without preventive measures”?
You are twisting my words.
It is clear that we have less deaths due to the preventative measures.
Reddit? REDDIT?!! You’re basing your position on what some effing randos on reddit said?
You might as well say that we should use aromatic oil diffusers to combat the disease. Try finding someone who actually knows what they’re talking about to support your position.
Yes, there are a lot of doom-and-gloomers on Reddit.
But being doom-and-gloom is different than wanting to be doom-and-gloom. I think some people are just wired to expect the worst. And a lot of Redditors are mentally ill teenagers. They want everyone to die because they hate everyone and everything.
I don’t see people like that here, though.
Okay, so why do you keep beating the drum about the tens of millions of deaths being exaggerated?
Does that mean you think that, absent prevention, there wouldn’t have been tens of millions of deaths?
Does that mean that prevention has been so successful that we can suspend it without worrying about tens of millions of deaths?
More to the point, where do you get your sense of the above? Do you have some background as an epidemiologist, physician, healthcare planner, or biologist?
The US Navy tested virtually everyone on board the USS Roosevelt, and found that of the people who tested positive, 60% were asymptomatic.
Since sailors on an aircraft carrier tend to be younger and healthier than the general population of the US, it’s likely that the prevalence of asymptomatic carriers in the US will be lower - but not that much lower. This is going to make restarting the economy really, really problematic. A vaccine is the only thing that’s going to really wrestle this virus under control.
They also lash out at the WHO.
Dr. Oz is a quack.
Shut yo mouth. Lemurs have Got this😜
Now the mayor of Jacksonville is opening up beaches. Supposedly only running, walking, biking, etc. will be allowed and not group activities or sunbathing. How much you wanna bet the mayor won’t close the beaches when people start gathering in groups, as they inevitably will?
And I think that Ohio racetrack owner who says he’s opening up the racetrack(to 6,000 people instead of its 30,000 capacity so people will, you know, voluntarily stay 6 feet apart) is the first of many who are going to say damn the science, let’s get 'er done! Then when the COVID rates spike, they won’t accept any blame.
A lot of pro-totalitarian stuff going on in Europe, esp. Hungary.
The “This is all going to bring us together and other nifty things!” people don’t know their history.
According to a study in Scientific America, only half of coronavirus deaths are due to the virus while the other half are due to opportunistic infections ala HIV. Last week a study claimed that the coronavirus attacked T cells.
Hungary needs to be kicked out of the EU.
