We are happy [the Space Shuttle] broke up."

Holy shit was that uncalled for!

You seriously, seriously owe her an apology.

Christian god, muslim god, jewish god, budhist god, pagan gods. Isn’t it what this discussion is about?

**Happy Lendervedder[\b] historicaly I see your point. I think my original sentence still stands though.

I hate this divine revenge logic, it’s fucking primitive.

JohnnyIsGood, methinks you’ve been goodly whooshed mate.

The point of Zoe’s ‘What gods?’ question is that if somebody proclaims their atheism, then any referral to God or Gods is redundant.

Apparently, your stupidity knows no bounds, since you are 100% wrong, vis a vis “satuaration bombardments” being planned for Iraq.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A14356-2003Feb2.html

“Precision-guided bombs and missiles would pound the Iraqi military in the first 48 hours.” Precision bombing is being planned to "minimize civilian casualties and limit damage to Iraq’s infrastructure."

First I HATE HATE HATE the statement “Those that do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” You’re doomed to repeat it whether or not you learn from history, the point of learning from history is that you can choose which parts you repeat. Sorry, I just always hated that statement.

TechChick: I don’t know how you turned this into a class warfare argument, when you and I are in the same economic class, pretty much exactly. I don’t think the poor are worth any less than anyone else, I just said, that our tax code has SOME breaks worked in for the poor. That’s all. If you are paying 37% on your 20,000 a year you need a better accountant. As I said, when I was making 40,000 a year, I didn’t pay NEAR 37%, probably closer to 20-25%.

Anyway, I don’t know why you took this into a crusade about taxes. My only kvetch with what you said, was comparing economic sanctions to taxes. How you can make that comparison is still beyond me. As for taxes I think you benefit froom the taxes you pay. If you’re as poor as you say, you probably qualify for Medicaid. You can call the fire department if your house burns down, you can call the police department if you’re robbed. You drive on flat paved streets to work. You receive uniform broadcasts via your airwaves, rather than any Tom Dick and Harry jacking whatever frequency they feel like to broadcast on. Your country can invade Iraq because of your taxes. I think taxes benefit you, just as they benefit me.

I’m sorry, but you’ve failed to sway me about good and evil. Just because I don’t wish to have my city attacked again, I’m not going to allow you to put politically charged words in my mouth that I think are false statements. I still do not believe in good and evil, I believe in cross purposes.

For example, you and I are at cross purposes, I think that the methods you advocate will cause more terrorist attacks, and you believe that the methods that you advocate will reduce the terrorist attacks. From the impression that I’m getting, I read a lot more about the subject than you do, so I’m afraid I’m going to have to not bow to your expertise on this one, but I certainly don’t think your opposing viewpoint is evil, or misguided, I just happen to think it’s incorrect.

Erek

Well, they said there’s be no carpet bombing in Desert Storm either, and yet there was. We’ll know the truth in about 5 years I suppose, because you know there is going to be a press blackout, as is the norm these days.

Erek

Five fucking pages. Why do we worry about what others in the world think? It is fairly obvious that there is enough hate and stupidity right here to last forever. Manufactured news articles are a fact of life. Look at how many comments it generated right here. Did anybody actually see these people make this statement on a live feed?

Press blackout or no, the Gulf War was on CNN in its entirety, from start to finish. Any reason to believe that won’t be the case this time around?

Seriously… all this over two probably brainwashed or scared or plain moronic men in a struggling country where US has been the state enemy for over a decade. I guessed moronic over evil because like it or not, there are people who lack the emotional and mental facilities to personalize and/or understand certain situations, and they need not necessarily be satanic in their everyday life.

The fact that even in a relatively educated affluent free nation like the US you will still find people who have dehumanized Russians, and will, I guarantee will, cheer Iraqi deaths in the coming war speaks volumes about the human condition.

do you really believe that CNN and or/any news agency has or will have 100% access to the war?

if so, that really explains quite a lot.

Um, it’s on Reuters, which is about as mainstream a source as one can get.

You made the assertion about “manufactured news articles”, it’s up to you to prove it.

Thanks but I don’t think that’s what she meant at all. Redundant would be saying “divine god”, for example. Besides, wouldn’t that make Santa Claus universaly “redundant”?

100%? No. More access than the Pentagon would like? You betcha, as it should be. Plus, there’s Al-Jazerra (sp) and any number of American & European news organizations who would dearly love to “stick it” to the Administration. So yes, any time a bomb goes off course and hits a hospital, school, child, whatever, there will be breaking-news, front-page, nearly hysterical coverage, much of which will be of the ‘I told you so’ variety.

So, you seem to believe that CNN et al will have, essentially, unfettered and totally accurate up to the minute reports on what happened when and how?

We dont’ even have that for the more recent Afghanistan invasion. No one has access to those who’ve been taken prisoner in Git-mo for example.

Well, it’s war, what do you expect, all newspapers bowing before Bush and jacking him off so he spoojes on a picture of Sadam? A good chunk of the people in this country are opposed to the war, as well as many people throughout the world. They have voices, too.

I theresay and here say that sometimes the levels of certain things are unfarthermable. But I do assert some people incorrectly use the word “assertation” in their dissertation.

I’d like to apologize for my comments a few pages ago. Although it isn’t a good excuse, I should have known better than to open a thread such as this one and then post in it when my state of mind was the way it was at that point.

If I deeply offended anyone, and I’m quite sure that I did, My most heartfelt apologies.

I’m not normally in the habit of telling a bunch of faceless people to suck my dick. Really.

So what? They are possibly dangerous, enemy combatants. What else do you want to know?

Should the NYT publish their names, ranks, countries of origin, etc.? Or would that be a good way to tip-off the rest of the enemy, as to who we caught, how we did it, and what information we have gained from them?

You seem to be going all over the map, arguement wise. First you’re claiming that CNN et al will effectively demonstrate that the US will have nothing to hide, even if there is a news black out and here you seem to be completely accepting of the fact that CNN will not have unfettered access to the war. which is it please?

Depends on what you mean by 100% access. Are they going to broadcast troop deployments, ship movements, Air Force flight patterns, etc.? No, and why should they?

CNN and others will show the whole bloody mess, live, and in-color, just like last time, only moreso.

Question: Why do you think the US has or will have anything to hide?
