Everyone remembers 9/11. It was a horrible day for humanity and America.
However, I am becoming more and more sympathetic to the views of the rest of the world that America is a huge conglomeration of snobs and undereducated, paranoid lemmings, devoid of independant thought. The war in Iraq is a sham, totally circumspect of the “war on terror” and if we suffer another attack like 9/11, I believe we probably deserve it.
Why can’t both sides be bad?
If you believe we deserve it, would you help make it happen. If not why?
Maybe what you really mean is that YOU deserve it.
Now now, GD.
He’s still right till proven wrong.
I don’t believe anyone deserves to be terrorized. However, I also don’t believe anyone deserves to be immune from being terrorized. After seeing the hypocrisy wrt our reaction to 9/11 and the London bombings compared to our indifference or even glee about the terror being spread in Iraq, I really wonder why some Americans really wonder why everyone hates us.
So, masheene dot whatever, you could look down on the body of a 62 year old woman, bleeding, torn apart by a bomb blast and say " You deserve this" ?
If so then I’d say that you truly are the one who deserves it.
continuity error
These statements don’t appear to work together. If no one deserves to be terrorized, then everyone should be immune from it.
We will never be able to satisfy much of the world for a number of reasons. I believe the primary one is cultural conceit manifesting itself as jealousy. We’ll have to just go on feeding and medicating the world while protecting and liberating millions around the globe.
You can find plenty of people willing to lay every trouble they have at our feet. But lets ask some of the muslims whose lives we saved in Kosovo. Or the millions of people in eastern europe that used to be behind the iron curtain. Or the women of Afghanistan and Iraq. Or the Kurds. Or most of the Shiites in Iraq.
Our farms, pharmacuetical companies and our generosity save thousands of lives a year. Do we do everything right? No. But I’m satisfied with the state of the ledger when balancing the good and bad.
Did the terrorists have a magic time machine so they would know what our reaction would be to the attack on 9/11? Or are you saying that our handling of the first Gulf War and liberation of Kuait was a mistake and we should have let Saddam just anex the place (since this seems to be the major bug up Ossama’s ass…US troops in the holy land and all)?
I don’t see how we ‘deserved’ to have 2000+ US citizens murdered by a bunch of maniacs. What exactly gives them the moral high ground? Were the folks in various embassies in Africa pre-9/11 equally deserving of death because…what? They were black? Because their government ‘supported’ the US (whatever the hell that means in this context)?
I don’t see how its killing innocent civilians is ever ‘deserved’. It should be avoided if at all possible, and done only with great regret and reluctance…not something that is the primary goal.

Well, yes, that’s what I mean, in a roundabout way. What I am saying is that Americans and other Westerners should not be ANY MORE immune than others. We should all be deserving of the same amount of terror, which is ideally none.
Gotcha. Or gotcha ya as they say.
Not true. He says he believes “we deserve it”. His statement does not have any proof to back up his belief and seems to be simply making a statement to see what response it brings. [sup]Isn’t there a term for that?[/sup]
See, now, this is part of the problem, thinking that terrorism is only done by “maniacs.” You don’t have to examine the reasons why they did what they did. You don’t have to take steps like learning their language or understanding their culture so as to head off more attacks. There’s no predicting or preventing them. They’re just maniacs!
masheene:
Do you have a response to any of this? I’m particularly interested in your response to post #3.
I’m sure others would like to hear from you, as well.
Isn’t that like saying the culture of Islam breeds murderers?
So “snobs and undereducated, paranoid lemmings, devoid of independant thought” deserve to be killed?
Yes but don’t dare say it (write it) out loud.

Benefit of being the OP. An OP simply suggests a topic to debate, fighting a side comes after that.
Trolling. And approaching the troll with hostility instead of debating the topic on it’s own merits just bows to the troller.
Or at least this is how I approach GD.

All I’m saying is that we, as terrorists, deserve (IN MY OPINION) to be submitted to the same fate we have inflicted upon the undeserving populace of Iraq. Do you not agree that we are acting in a terrorist fashion regarding the relatively unnecessary slaughter of civilians in Iraq?
