We are so f*cking screwed (re: the war)

Well, my spring break went just as planned. Starting last Friday, nothing but drinking, sleeping, eating, sportsbars, and watching basketball. I successfully managed to limit the time that I heard or saw anything about the war to about 10 total minutes (they had little updates during halftime of the games, but thankfully the sound was off at the bars so nothing would spoil my nice vacation from reality.) So I happen to catch some talk radio driving home yesterday, and I expected to hear that the war was about over…

…and I was wrong.

So, I see we’re parked outside of Baghdad, that’s nice. As for everything else… Shock and awe? Nope. Demoralized Iraqi soldiers surrendering by the thousands? Nope. Iraqi citizens celebrating our arrival as “liberators”? Nope.

So what do we have? A bunch of Iraqis running around in occupied territory like conquered Russian peasantry attacking our supply lines? Yep, got that. Marines down to one meal a day due to supply chain problems? Yep, got that. Reporters telegraphing troop retreats to fix said problem, on Fox News of all places?? Yep, there it is.

The United States is totally fucked. I see only a few ways this ends:

A) US pulls out before toppling Hussein. If he doesn’t have WMDs now, he sure as hell will start making them then and giving them to whoever the hell he wants, since he’d know he’s basically untouchable.

B) We keep going as we are, having tiny little skirmishes where we send a couple helicopters after a few of their tanks. Six months later, hippie protesters’ use of the “V”-word will seem more accurate as the US casualties mount.

C) We have a seige and starve 'em out. Europeans whine about civilian starvations (casualties), everyone hates us even more, we’re diplomatically fucked in perpetuity.

D) We bomb the ever-loving fuck out of Baghdad, with no regard for civilian casualties and win the whole damn thing in 3 days. Same consequences as above, plus the elimination of any possibility of peaceful “nation-building”, plus increased retaliation from fringe Islam groups.

I opposed the war, but when the war starts that isn’t really the question any more, since it’s not like we can just pull out (see option A above.) Like McCain said when another war-happy president launched his attacks on Kosovo, I may not want us to be there but when you’re in it, you’re there to win it. If it’s a choice between tens of thousands of US casualties in a war that goes on for years or bombing some Iraqi civilians, then I say bomb the fuck out of them. But why the hell did we have to end up in this situation in the first place? Were our top military strategists so stupid they thought the Iraqi people would just jump up and cheer for their conquerers and lead us into Baghdad, waltzing in like Cortez into Tenochtitlan? What a bunch of braindead fucking morons.

These people have fucked the country’s future no matter how this ends up. If this was the best plan they could come up with, then I wouldn’t trust these guys to play a game of Starcraft against a 5 year old Korean girl at a cybercafe.

We are so fucking screwed.

Rex old buddy, all I can say is ‘preach it’. The hell of it is that the people that got us into this mess aren’t even going to pay for it (yea, Bush might not get re-elected but I’m sure he’ll get a cushy job somewhere making a few million a year). Meanwhile the rest of us are going to be spilling our blood in some shithole of an Iraqi town or struggling to make ends meet after the economy tanks. Fuck Bush.

Donald Rumsfield could fuck up a wet dream.

Hey Don… thanks for not adequately supplying our men to fight in Iraq. You fucking asshole.

*Much of the supply of Tomahawk cruise missiles has been expended, aircraft carriers were going to run out of precision guided bombs and there were serious maintenance problems with tanks, armored vehicles and other equipment, the article said.

“The only hope is that they can hold out until reinforcements arrive,” the former official said.

The article quoted the senior planner as saying Rumsfeld had wanted to “do the war on the cheap” and believed that precision bombing would bring victory.

Some 125,000 U.S. and British troops are now in Iraq. U.S. officials on Thursday said they planned to bring in another 100,000 U.S. soldiers by the end of April.*

So… we’ll have four more weeks of a war that we have to hold out on DESPITE THE FUCKING FACT THAT OUR MEN ARE BEGINNING TO LACK SUPPLIES AND WEAPONS??

Rumsfield is a complete moron and I’d hope that he finds a good retirement home to stay at, especially if this war isn’t won.

The war will not end with Saddam being toppled. Saddam will be toppled, but the Shiites and Kurds will rise up, the US will not hold democratic elections in Iraq, or if any elections are held, they will be rigged so the next leader bows to US business interests over the interests of Iraq.

There is no way in hell I would ever vote for Bush in 2004. Regime Change in America. Ya know.

Try this one: Rumsfeld ignored Pentagon advice on Iraq-report

It’s everyone’s favorite gutless wonder, RexDart!

Since you seem to be set in your gutless-wonder ways, I’ll keep this short. But what you are seeing now is a pause in the ground campaign as the air campaign switches to a mainly tactical focus. You do remember that in the last Gulf War, we had 30+ days of bombing preceding the ground invasion, right?

To address some of your other alarmist and stupid observations, in no particular order:

  1. Thousands of Iraqi soldiers have surrendered.

  2. Attacks on our supply lines have been nominal, at worst. Other then the maint. company that was hit, I am unaware of any other actual attack on rear-area units.

  3. Each MRE has about 1300 calories. Standard battlefield practice is for troops in the field to have 2 per day, which is what they are at now.

  4. Retreat? You must be watching Al Jazeera’s coverage.

  5. We bombed the ever-living fuck out of Japan and Germany. Didn’t seem to hurt our nation-building efforts much.
When it comes to military matters, you seem incredibly retarded.

Brutus old buddy, all I can say is “preach it”.

Damn,

the more shrill you people get the more I tune you out. What a bunch of fuckin crybabies.

“oh no we are so fucked. I want my mommy.”

A) If your in spring break, I highly doubt you got the credentials and contacts to know your asshole from elbow when it comes to this war and what the fuck is really happening.

B) See A)

C) See A)

D) See A)

But what you are seeing now is a pause in the ground campaign as the air campaign switches to a mainly tactical focus.

Until we run out of stuff to fire because Rumsfield held a dollar store war.

You do remember that in the last Gulf War, we had 30+ days of bombing preceding the ground invasion, right?

Yes… and we’ve already invaded Iraq. And this is not KUWAIT. Where it’d fall in 100 days. Maybe if we kept bombing them for 30+ days and then invaded, it’s be comparable to the first Gulf War. But, instead, this war has been waged with questionable support by the military for the ground forces and it has been waged with an extreme amount of idiocy (the friendly fire accidents)

1) Thousands of Iraqi soldiers have surrendered.

Yeah… but you still have the Republican Guard and the others willing to fight the US.

3) Each MRE has about 1300 calories. Standard battlefield practice is for troops in the field to have 2 per day, which is what they are at now.

Uh huh… until they get hungry and have to be fed by local Iraqis of course.

4) Retreat? You must be watching Al Jazeera’s coverage.

Well, you can call it “Advancing in another direction.” We sure the fuck aren’t advancing any more.

5) We bombed the ever-living fuck out of Japan and Germany. Didn’t seem to hurt our nation-building efforts much.

Japan and Germany didn’t have the potential threats of militant Shinto or militant Christians rising up to fuck up the government. And anyways, Germany isn’t a total success for ‘nation building’ since the East was a Communist state. Only the West really soared until they reunited.
When it comes to military matters, you seem incredibly retarded.

And your #1 defense is a total lack of knowledge about this. “I don’t know, I don’t know”

Just a note - I have eaten MRE’s for camping trips and the like, and 2 a day is more than enough, even with considerable physical activity, at least for me.

It’s everyone’s favorite attack by namecalling instead of facts man, Brutus!

Damn, i guess that means the war is over. Oh, wait, it ISN’T! Thousands in the US have protested, too, i guess that means the war will be stopped.

I guess we are advancing sideways or something. This wouldn’t be a big deal if people like you weren’t trumpeting the US rolling to Baghdad non-stop.

Yes, but they aren’t gonna fly planes into buildings and dirty bomb new york to retaliate.

You seem retarded 100% of the time. I hope you are just some liberal member of the board’s sock puppet, otherwise you are a disgrace to conservative america.

I’d respond to Saen, but why do that when i can just say See A, Mr. Saen, but replace “spring break” with “living in mom’s basement” and up the grammer to third grade level.

Tars:

Remember the facts man… Let me just post the anti-Tars response now.

“Don’t worry, it’s going fine. Really. It’s all right. The Military is very strong under Bush and Rumsfield. Sure. We’ll do it. Let’s Roll Shit, we don’t have enough men, tanks or missiles? FUCKING CLINTON!! SON OF A BITCH CRIPPLED THE ARMY!! HE SOLD OUR SECRITS TO THE CHINESE! But, shuddup pussy, We’ll still win. Them Iraqis gonna surrender sometime. We’ll starve out Baghdad or we’ll firebomb them. You’re a pussy anyways, it took us four years to win WW2! It took us a month to win the first time! You can’t stand blood, I bet you’re a PETA member!”

sniff

Your soooo good at this.

Hey you fucking moron, where did I assert I knew whet the fuck was going on you fucktard. If you want to sling pathetic, childish, dumbass insults, then my appologies.

hey, you forgot to call me a dirty commie! I haven’t been called a commie for 5 minutes now!

(btw, i was in an antiwar protest friday briefly as i strolled through it on the way to the movie theater. Weather in SF is sunny, with a chance of war protestors and fog in the afternoon.)

Shut the fuck up you Communist! Soldiers gave you the right to be free and they weren’t fucking athiest cockworshippers like you!

(happy now?)

**Saen i just added you as an afterthought since you insulted my friend. It was all Clinton’s fault you were included!
on preview: good job, ** RobbieFal
!

I have never used commie as an expletive. How 'bout anti-marrikan-heathen-terrorist? Best I can do.

The fog goes without saying after protests. With all that hot air blowing around.

I’m going to give the OP more credence than it deserves…

No, I’m not.

Rex, you’re a fucking moron. This is a war, asshole, 2 day victories exist only in the minds of idealists. Frankly, this whole thing could have been over by now if we’d gone in carpet bombing the place, but we haven’t and we won’t because, hard as it is for me to believe, the Shrub is actually running this thing with massive consideration for the Iraqi people. If we had “bombed the shit” out of Iraq, we’d have won by now, but the left would be crucifying the military for many, many civilian deaths ( and rightly so ). We haven’t done that, and people are pissing and moaning that it wasn’t over between breakfast and tea time. You have no concept what a military campain is like, the logistics required, the time it takes, particularly when minimizing civilian casualties is a prime goal. You want an MTV war and you’re not going to get it, real life is a lot messier and more complex than that. Consider this: Latest casualty reports that I’ve seen have 38 Americans dead. Compare that with 293 in GW I, which took 100 hours on the ground. You need a reality check, or maybe just to sober up after your spring break.

the 148 deaths in GW1 (not 293) were over the entire month of war, I presume.

That month included the air war and the 100 hour invasion.

Invading Iraq is not close to Invading Kuwait.

The deal isn’t that we’re still fighting 12 days into this.

The deal is that Rumsfield under-equipped the ground troops and we have supplies for a MONTH of war.

The deal is that the planning for this war was totally flawed. It was a god damn rush into war on a tip by our agents, a bombing and then an invasion without the month of bombing that occured in GW1.

Ugh…

and just wait until Saddam is killed. The conflict has yet to begin. Can you say “power vaccum”? Or do you think the US would risk elections that could elect Iraqis who want the US out?

no, they will just surrender, RobbieFal! And why would they want us out, we’re America, the king of cool! Now give me some oil!
