We are SO FUCKED (Ruth Bader Ginsburg died tonight)

It will be a 19-year-old bottle blonde from Liberty University. All rise for, like, the honorable Justice MacKortlinn White.

“I’m so honored that Donald has entrusted unto me this honorable trust. For all intensive purposes, he’s touched me and my life as he touches his own daughter. I will repay this sacred debt at my earliest convenience.”

I’m no fan of Pat Toomey, but his predecessor Arlen Specter was a great man. Maybe some of Arlen’s greatness will rub off.

Republican principles are always 100% a situational, transactional, virtue performance. They rely on being taken at face value and never challenged. When actually put to the test, they fold like a card table and make meek little noises about “right to life” or “small government”. Bunch of foaming gurgling pussies if you ask me.

I believe that the Republicans and conservatives have been grooming their constituents for some time. They started slow, feeding them a little lie here and a casual untruth there, then ramped it up until they would believe anything. Then they gradually shed the traditional conservative values that didn’t serve the long con.

And now that their constituents are groomed, they are going for the payoff. The modern Conservative party is a grift. A con game.

I highly recommend this article. I selected this one primarily because it’s old. The premise is what I’ve outlined above and their “proof”, their real life example of grift- is that a lying liar of a Presidential candidate has disgraced the Grand Old Party with his constant lying lies — Mitt Romney. I chose this article because it’s good for us frogs to recognize how hot the water has gradually gotten, and because the course of events since it was written goes to show how right the author was.

I have been researching this lately. My “wall of links”, which I save in Notepad, is up to 35.

These links are the story of Republicans and conservatives literally running scams and ripping off donors. Liberty U. The NRA. Build the Wall. The 10 Tea Party PACs that spent less than 5% of their donations on their mission and the ensuing scandal that was ginned up when the IRS tried to investigate. Ann Coulter hawks financial scams. Allen West promotes a scam church that involves literally drinking bleach. Mike Huckabee hawks a “biblical cancer cure.” Whole Food magazine, the natural supplement industry publication named Mitch McConnell their 2019 Person of the Year.

Since 2015, I have often engaged in political conversations IRL. Whenever these discussions turned to something Trump promised, my response has been the same.

“So what, it’s meaningless. He’s nothing but con artist”. And he found the perfect audience.

I’ll will acknowledge that there are probably a lot of conservatives that see this and want to escape the cult and leaving cults is hard.

There is no way Republicans will not vote to confirm this justice. Time to mentally brace ourselves for a 6-3 court in favor of conservative ideologues. And if Breyer goes, it’ll be 7-2. It’s the most conservative bench since at least the 1930s and perhaps the most conservative since before the Civil War. Despite representing a minority of public opinion, conservatives are setting it up to be a minority that governs the majority into perpetuity.

If Mark Kelly wins in Arizona, he gets seated in November. But the vote will probably come before that.

The vote may well come next week. There is no requirement for hearings (or as McConnell showed in 2016 even for a vote).

Nancy Pelosi says Dems have "arrows in our quiver.” What are they, and what the fuck is she waiting for?

She has ruled out a government shutdown. Impeach Trump again? Impeach Barr? Those sound like bad stunts. What’s she got?

That’s a good question - the Senate is its own thing and the House has very little sway over it.

I did read where the Senate rules require that all business be dropped if the House sends over articles of impeachment, but that is only going to work once (and even for that once, Mitch will just immediately call a vote without hearings of any kind).

She has no arrows. There is nothing that can stop McConnell and Trump from putting another conservative on the bench. Pelosi’s talking about her imaginary bodyguard at this point.

I think the best thing Dems can do is to make this an election issue. If voters don’t come out and vote out the entire GOP, it’s going to be a 7-2 majority within a year or two. Talk about the impact on ACA and other laws we take for granted. I think that’s the only realistic option.

Schumer has invoked a rule which says that no Senate committee or subcommittee can meet after the Senate has been in session for two hours or after 2 p.m.

I’m actually surprised DumpsterFire hasn’t floated the idea of nominating himself to the Supreme Court. As our foremost expert on the U.S. Constitution, he’s actually denying our country his expertise - in a lifetime position.

(Steve gives himself a dope slap for even suggesting this)

There’s not all that much scope for funneling cash from taxpayers into your own pockets, on the Supreme Court.

“Emperor” is a much better position for that sort of thing.

The GOP will just poo-poo on this rule anyway, forcing Chuck to have to go shut off the lights.

Meh, Republicans tend to be reliably consistent voters in any case. For me the faint gleam of hope comes from the hope that some wavering Democrats may be fired up to vote for Biden who otherwise wouldn’t have.

Don’t bother searching.

But we don’t support him. He got in by a technicality we call the Electoral College. All our votes matter, but if you live in Wyoming or Alaska your vote matters much more than if you live in California.

I look forward to a democratic outcome in November. It is worrying for an Australian, but it must be far more than that for many Americans.

Sorry for coming into the thread late. I just had a sudden realization. The Republicans are behaving exactly as they would if they knew they were about to lose the White House and the Senate. I am sure this is obvious to everyone here, but is just dawned on me.

Funny.
