Having said that, it’s kinda fucking pathetic that a democracy has gotten to the point where we freak out over the death of a single judge. It’s a sign that democracy’s been dying for a long time.
McConnell held up the appointment of Obama’s guy for a year so that “the American people could decide” in the upcoming 2016 election, but once the shoe was on the other foot, he made no bones about the fact that he has no intention of doing that with a Republican president.

Just what I’ve been thinking the past few months (the first sentence, at the least), though my perspective is probably somewhat different (as I found out in another thread of mine).
I can’t name or recognize a single member of the Canadian supreme court, and I would guess the vast majority of Canadians couldn’t. I also can’t remember any of the judges dying or stepping down, let alone people freaking out about it.
