The only bright spot I see in all this is that there are a number of Republican senators in tight races who are going to have to face the voters sooner rather than later. That might make them want to wait until after the election to deal with RBG’s replacement. If tRump and the Rs lose badly, they may not be able to get the votes for someone really stupid, like Cruz or Cotton.
I feel terrible for how much I wanted her to slug it out till inauguration. She deserved better.

5 were nominated by Republican presidents. 4 by Democratic. Justice Ginsburg was nominated by a Democratic president.
