This has been the talk of the water cooler today and the more I think about it, the more it pisses me off. This rapper, who has been struggling with manic depression AND and addiction to PCP tried to kill himself.
His own security people moved him to a lower floor and locked him in his hotel room ALONE FOR HOURS!!! Granted, no one thought he’d gouge his own eye out but surely it was freaking obvious he was a danger to himself and should not have been left alone.
Charges should be brought against them. Criminal idoicy. Negligent stupidity. Assault with a stupid weapon-- their brains.
Not so sure about that Biggirl. His security is supposed to protect him from Other people. How do you protect someone from themselves without force when you work for the guy you are protecting. He could have just fired them all and done himself in. This was a bad situation for all involved.
Think about it. How long do you think you would have your job if you tried to forcably restrain your boss?
They forcebly restrained him from jumping out of the window and then locked him in his room against his will-- alone. He didn’t ask to be alone, he was left alone. Stupidly left alone.
God that’s stupid. You wouldn’t lock your mentally ill, suicidal friend in a room on their own, would you? You’d call an ambulance, the police or a doctor. Why the hell wouldn’t you do the same for your boss?
Your boss tries to jump out a window…at the very least you call one of his friends, his therapist (assuming he has one) or an ambulance. And someone sits with him until help arrives.
You DO NOT leave suicidal, mentally ill people on their own. He could have hung himself on the curtains or sheets, cut his wrists with a razor blade or a piece of broke glass, drowned himself in the bath, anything. What happened is bad, but it could have been worse.
If the guy fires you, you have to think that he’s insane, and that as a fellow human being he should be prevented from harming himself.
Reckless endangerment.
I thought you were obligated to call for help from the police/hospital if you knew someone was suicidal, and that if you didn’t you were liable legally?
But did the action of locking him away then prevent others from assisting him (or him from assisting himself)? Those folks might be in serious doo-doo.
Some anecdotal evidence to the contrary: I know a Security Team worker personally who works for a very famous person. He and his cronies have thwarted more than one of this person’s suicide attempts, and only partly out of caring for this person. They consider it part of the job description.
It varies in the industry, but some Security workers get very attached to their charges.
Hmm, going to have too look around a bit, but it seems I read that this person told his staff that he was going to sit quietly and read the bible in that room, and only after a while, when they later checked on him did they discover what he had done. Gonna go see if I can find where i read that.
He tried to jump out of a window. His security guards prevented him and then locked him, by himself, in a room on the lower floor. It is the height of stupidity to leave a person WHO JUST TRIED TO COMMIT SUICIDE alone for hours, whether he is reading the bible or not.
Stupid, stupid, stupid. They all should be charged with crimes against intelligence.
Well I guess we will have to wait and see which story ends up being the truth. It sounds like the initial reports of attempted self-defenstration might have been exaggerated, or the bodyguards are trying to cover their own asses. Be interesting to see which.
