"We Can Work It Out"

Paul’s “message” to the rest of the Beatles?

Quasi

I’d read it was a message to Jane Asher.

The middle part was John’s, anyway.

Paul was likely writing to Jane Asher. The band was not really having problems in 1965, so there wasn’t much for them to “work out.”

Yeah, it was Jane Asher. If you listen to the lyric, you can tell that Paul could be a real ass. His relationship with Jane was not turbulent, but it was never really stable.
(Well, obviously.)

Probably not. The song was written in 1965, before any trouble began within the group.

Damn, I should read what other post before I post a reply.

Paul had the idea for the song. He also provided the title and a couple of verses. He then collaborated with John and they wrote the middle together. It was George’s idea to put the middle into waltz time. This is Paul on the lyrics:

The lyrics might have been personal. It is often a good way to talk to someone or to work your own thoughts out. It saves you going to a psychiatrist, you allow yourself to say what you might not say in person.

I’ve always loved how that songs starts. It just… starts!

I don’t know much about all the Beatles’ personal relationships or anything, but I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one who thinks that song is pretty obnoxious – the lyrics, anyway, I like the song fine when I can just ignore what it’s saying. “Try to see it my way […] While you see it your way, there’s a chance that we might fall apart before too long.”

In other words, “I’m right, you’re wrong and you’re being stubborn for not seeing that.”
