This video was absolutely amazing to me. I was so intrigued by it I was hoping we could start a thread sharing some of our most amazing animal videos. No rules for sharing, but try to make sure they are truly unique and/or incredible.
Dogs are sentient, but just barely. I would be as inclined to believe the second was trying to drag the first to somewhere it could eat it safely as I would that it was dragging it to safety.
I’ve been intrigued by something that occurred this year for the first time.
I live on a pond where there are two white swans (signets?) that are a mating pair who generally hatch six offspring. Survival is very tentative. The six gradually gets cut down one by one. Dogs and people are known predators. There are also foxes and possible coyotes. Two years ago was the only time I saw one offspring reach maturity and leave the pond. It must have been a male. I’ve watched this scenario for ten years. This year the pair began commuting to a small lake four miles away. They made a nest there in a more protected area. There was car traffic near, but no kids or dogs and no access by the above natural predators. Unfortunately, none of the eggs were able to hatch. The couple returned to my pond after the effort.
What was the thought process in these beings that animated this new behavior? Did they think about it all winter or just in spring? What will they chose next year? Let others call it instinct. I chose to see it as a thought process.
Just barely!?!?! You don’t know much about dogs. That video isn’t surprising. What’s surprising (or maybe not) is that no humans stepped in to help before the dog did. There are numerous stories of selfless acts by dogs who have saved people and other animals. I’d rather risk my life to save a dog’s life than the live’s of many people.
