We don't need no steeeenk-ing Badges!!!

There’s a film called Bubble Boy from 2001 that has a scene between Jake Gyllenhall as Bubble Boy and Danny Trejo as a biker. Bubble Boy is bouncing through a desert when he happens upon a biker who is trying to fix his motorcycle. The biker is ready to cut Bubble Boy when Bubble Boy comes up with some patches. The biker says, “I could use some stinking patches”. Funny stuff, huh?

From the above cited stinking badges web site, the earliest attributed use of “badges, we don’t need no stinking badges” was from a Monkees episode airing seven years before Blazing Saddles.

Admit, you’re all Monkees fans.

Maybe Mel Brooks is, too? No, on second thought, if he were, Robin Hood: Men in Tights probably would have had Davey Jones wandering through half the picture.

Oh, and I’ll second Ukulele Ike, Sierra Madre still holds up pretty well.

Anyone who remembers Blazing Saddles as the source of the quote, rather than The Treasure of Sierra Madre, is a true lightweight when it comes to knowledge of movies.

Sorry, I just bought Neverwhere and the Indiana Jones box set, I’ll be watching those.

An excellent 2-disc special edition of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre has just been released. Go and rent/buy it now! It’s a timeless classic.

(Unlike Blazing Saddles. While it’s hilarious, it’s unlikely to resonate with a generation unfamiliar with Hedy Lamarr, Marlene Dietrich or Count Basie.)

Treasure of the Sierra Madre is, among other things, Bogart’s best screen role and my favorite John Huston movie. It’s a must-see.

Sierra Madre is a great movie and when I think of steenking badges I think of the bandito saying that, not Blazing Saddles.

I heard it first as “Badgers? We don’t need no stinking badgers!” In Weird Al’s UHF. I don’t remember it from Blazing Saddles, or actually I think I kind of remember it from BS but it doesn’t spring to mind quickly. At some point I saw just a clip of the original in Treasure of the Sierra Madre and realized where it came from. I can’t say for sure whether it was before or after I saw BS.

When I think of the line I think TotSM rather than BS. I’m not sure why.

I also usually remember UHF at the same time.
