The problem here is that when I say I love my wife, first that’s a statement that I’m the best situated to evaluate, not everyone else; and second, it’s true. On both counts, then, your analogy fails: you’re no better situated to evaluate your statements about the egalitarianism of your proposal than anyone else (indeed, because of the aforementioned profound stupidity, you’re significantly worse situated); and second, your statements are false.
I know I should be tolerant of the random cackles of the mentally infirm, so I will be. At the same time, I’ll point out that I’m not trying to debate you right now, I’m laughing at you and calling you names.
Only inasmuch as I value reason and logic and you value holding to your stupid beliefs no matter what. These are certainly different values.

stpauler, I commend you for starting this thread. But I regret to say that IMO it will have all the effect of a RO Pit thread on some act of human stupidity that exposed a small child to irreparable injury.
Magellan is supremely convinced of the supernal rightness of his proposed ‘solution’, and adamantinely impervious to any criticism of it. And he is privileged to hijack any and every thread devoted to any question related to same-sex marriage, its legal footing and impacts on society, into [del]a debate[/del] dueling monologues completely bypassing each other on the Magellan Civil Unions Plan.
Why this might be the case, it is not permissible to discuss in this forum. I will stretch such goodwill as I may have left here to the limit by suggesting that you might get an answer by privately contacting one or more of the Forum Leaders listed on the menus – but I rather doubt it.
It is a shame – it is a major societal issue with a wide range of interesting questions and ethical concerns related to it. But it does seem to be the case.
Oh, and I wish to retract the compliment I paid Magellan in the GD SSM thread hijacked by David42 last month, that he seemed to have quit doing this, and to apologize to the Teemiing Millions for having said it.
