Swear to god. Someone went and got a cake and had “We will remember” pasted on top.
Seriously.

Wow. That’s even worse than the “9/11 Commemorative Coins” I see hawked on late-night television.
On second thought, no it isn’t - at least no one was trying to make a buck off the cake. Still, though. Wow.
Everyone knows, after all, that for mourning food it’s got to be casserole!
Seriously, I wish I were more surprised.
Did it look like this one?
“…until we finish this cake, anyway.”
We had 9-11 candy bars. I brought Twix.
I mean, I didn’t bring them for the “holiday”, but I did bring a huge thing of Twix today. Now it’s hilarious.
Appalling. First of all, the frosting shouldn’t be chocolate–those towers were white. Lose the chocolate or add white frosting vertical stripes.
Second, does the cake have filling? I am so hoping not…
Third, how does one cut this cake? And what with?
(I think the whole concept is oogie, btw)
That is fucked up. Seriously.
Such as little jimmies baked into the tower portions of the cake, that will fall out as you cut and serve that part of the cake?
Gotta run, my bus is leaving…
I just looked more closely at the picture and realized that cake has f**king candles on it!
Re the OP, I’m of two minds on this. One the one hand, is this the best way to recognize the day? Myself, I favor observing the day as little as possible… why give the 2001 attacks or those who perpetrated them any more acknowledgment than necessary? Mine seems to be a minority opinion, though, and I certainly respect those who mark the day with solemnity and reflection. Regardless, I don’t think this served either approach very well.
On the other hand: cake. I love cake.
Mmmm, sacrilicious…
I, too, love cake. Cake is beautiful and delicious.
Cake, however, is not quite appropriate for today…
The mind boggles.
Did anyone throw paper planes at the cakes?
At least the person who brought the cake had good intentions. The coins, plates, pins, assorted chotckies etc are disgusting.
Yeah, it is.
I’m waiting for the day when the 9/11 sales start being advertised, a la “Memorial Day”.
Worst I’ve ever seen was a St. Valentine’s Day Massacre Sale. I doubt 9/11 sales will happen within our lifetimes due to the amount of people who would go to the store just to give them what-for. It’d be a nice test of how far “any press is good press” goes . . .
Or the Liberian government-authorized $20 coin-certificate, payable in coin of the realm like a silver certificate! For the first time, two different numbers- 9 and 11- are used to add up to the face value of the bill to remember that fateful day. And it can be yours for the face value- only $20!*
Anyway, 9/11 cake is disturbing. I thought at first the cake was shaped like the WTC- which would be even more disturbing, since you would re-destroy, then eat, the World Trade Center.
[sub]*Not actual face value. $20 Liberian= 31 cents American.[/sub]
Chocolate should not be made to be tasteless.
Perfect. Paper planes on fire would be the absolute top.
I like the jimmies in the filling idea, too. I think I am seriously disturbed.
