We have a new Librarian of Congress

And for a change, she’s a librarian (it’s been more than 60 years since the LoC was actually a librarian).

Dr. Carla Hayden was confirmed today. She has a stellar history of leadership in libraries, and as a librarian, I’m very excited to see the direction she takes the LoC.

I’m happy about it, but to many of you it’s probably both mundane and pointless.

I’m more amazed that the Senate actually confirmed an appointee for once.

So is she going to lay down the law on all those congressmen who have overdue books?

I don’t care about that. I want her to modernize the shit out of the LOC.

First the Oscars, then People’s Sexiest Man Alive, and now Librarian of Congress. I don’t know how much more rejection I can take this year!

Hey, I was just joking.

Good luck getting the money to do that.

Why in the heck would there have been an LOC who wasn’t a librarian?

Only two major award ceremonies left: the Nobel Prizes and the MTV Video Music Awards. We’re rooting for you to win in either Physics or Best Choreography.

She’s highly respected in the library world. Yes, it’s good to see an actual librarian in the position.

Politics, the fact that librarianship is strongly seen as a pink collar profession, and I’m sure other reasons as well.

Beyonce wrote the best book this year!

The three librarians in my family are happy about it.

Another librarian here doing the huzzah for a real librarian as Librarian of Congress.

Next thing you know they’ll be putting real backup singers on the Supremes Court. “Guilty!” Doo wap, doo wap.

'Tis indeed odd that the Librarian of Congress wasn’t a real librarian for so long.

We need Conan the Librarian!

I’m nominated for the Nobel for Best Kiss. And I don’t like to name drop but I’m pretty sure one of my SDMB posts inspired Lin Manuel Miranda to write Hamilton.

I just hope she has high values like this:

“I don’t judge a man by the length of his hair or the kind of music he listens to. Rock was never my bag. But you put on a pair of shoes when you walk into the New York Public Library, fella.”- Bookman
