Thanks, but I don’t see us getting any closer than Hawaii for the foreseeable future. I have been to Kansas once, as a child. On one of our summer vacations, I believe we drove north into it from Oklahoma City and turned left for Denver. Don’t think we stayed overnight.
Just wondering if there are any pidgee updates?
Thanks for asking. Nothing new to report though. I’m still hoping to try to make a short video of Henry jumping up and ordering breakfast. The timing is never right.
But Henry and Geri still come around. They’ve been together for well over a year now, so I think this mate, Henry’s third, His oldest daughter, Ladyboy. New babies. Even Spooky with the broken leg that’s set funny, although her mate seems to have disappeared. Gimpy returned after a prolonged absence.
BBC TV did carry a report about a couple in Austria who’ve not gone on holiday for 17 years, because they’ve been nursing their sick pigeon.
That’s what they said. We heard the report twice. I’m thinking, if the pigeon is that sick, call a vet. And they’ve not been able to use their oven, because the pigeon moved into it and has claimed it for it’s nest.
This was on BBC TV news, but I can’t find it on the BBC website.
Weird weather. The rainy season should have ended a month ago, but we’re still getting downpours almost every day. It’s almost December now. Never seen this before. I’m not sure they’ve actually hired a company yet to paint it anyway. But for now we’re still feeding.
Thanks, Baker, for reminding me to get motivated. I tend to procrastinate. But just now, I created a YouTube account and intend to film Henry this week. Just fed him and Geri (and Ladyboy) this morning and will leave soon. But things are happening. Hopefully I’ll have a video uploaded soon.
Okay, I just managed a short video of Henry ordering lunch for him and Geri. He caught me by surprise and I wasn’t really ready, so I’d like to get a better one. But it does show him jumping up in the window to place his order. I’m going to try to get a better one though. Plus I’d like to take this while the wife is home, so you can see them taking delievery of their meal while I’m still filming.
But now I have a YouTube account and something to upload if I can’t get a better recording. Coming soon.
Woo Hoo!
That’s the story. Thanks! Fortunately for us, Henry is self-sufficient when we go away.
I’ll try to have the video up by the weekend. All this new stuff I have to learn to do. But the wife saw the video on the camera and thinks its cute, and she’s a good judge of cute.
Success! I have now uploaded my very first video onto YouTube. ![]()
It’s just an experimental 11-second short of Henry ordering lunch for him and his sweetie, Geri. First, I apologize if the balcony seems a bit dirty, as we’d not cleaned it for a couple of days. (Three, actually.) And I didn’t mean to add a music soundtrack; it’s just that the radio was on behind me, and I forgot the camera did sound. (It’s a new Canon PowerShot G1X.)
First you’ll see Geri, then I pan to the right and catch Henry just in time to see him hop up and place his order. Then I had to stop filming to go feed them. I’ll try other videos in the future.
Now here they are, from Bangkok, Thailand yesterday (Wednesday) during the noon hour: Henry and Geri.
There’s a screen this side of the window, but it doesn’t seem to cause much visual distortion.
That was GREAT! ![]()
Fantastic! And as I said before, Henry is gorgeous.
Thanks, guys. Yes, Henry is one gorgeous bird. I think of all the pigeons we’ve hosted these past 4-1/2 year, if I were going to buy a pigeon, Henry’s the one I would pick. It’s funny, but some people keep a bird in a cage, and sometimes the bird escapes and is never seen again; Henry’s never been in a cage but has been hanging around faithfully for more than three years now.
He doesn’t know he has a name, he doesn’t know he has a surname (Bluegrizzle), he doesn’t know what a video is or that his movements are being monitored on the other side of the world. I wonder what he would make of all this if he somehow knew.
My big goal as far as filming goes is to record a sex scene. Unfortunately, it probably won’t be Henry and Geri. They don’t have their sex here, although they are sweet with one another. Today they were giving each other head massages, which entails sort of a noogie using their beaks. We’ve seen other pidgees do this, and it always looks enjoyable to the recipient. But others still do take advantage of the designated sex area. I do plan to record Henry and Geri some more too.
Wonderful video! Now that we’ve gotten a taste of the pidgies, we want more!
Thank you for working this out. They are beautiful!
Many thanks. So … when does the webcam go up?
Henry Does Bangkok?![]()
Here’s a new video!
This one is a bit longer (53 seconds) and action-packed. It’s from early this morning (Saturday morning). This time, BBC News is playing in the background. Sorry about that. I’ll have to remember to shut off whatever’s on when I start recording. And part of the glass is a little fogged over from condensation, because I was running the air conditioner and the sun wasn’t up enough yet to burn it off. But I think it’s still a good video (despite being a little shaky too). At about the 47- or 48-second mark, you can see something plunging behind Henry; looks like another pidgee swooping down from above.
Synopsis: Henry jumps up in the left window to order breakfast for him and his sweetie. Then he tries the right window when the food is not forthcoming as quickly as he wants it to. But he spies an enemy pidgee landing on the rail and flies up to chase him away. He starts to do his Angry Dance at the other one but then gets distracted when he notices my continued filming. The End.
Meanwhile, here are a couple of still photos of a new one who’s been coming around regularly for a couple of months now… We’ve named him Toasty, because he looks like a toasted marshmallow. You can see him here and here. Funny-looking little guy but still pretty, and definitely a male, as he gets a little aggressive to the others from time to time.
Oops! I meant Sunday morning. This morning was Sunday morning. :o
Oh that is splendid! It’s hilarious how Henry paces impatiently around, waiting to be fed. I mean, he really knows what to expect, what is going on.
Yes, a smart little guy. He’s the customer, and he definitely operates under the assumption that the customer is always right.
And a third video: Henry Has Dinner, taken about an hour ago. Henry also has to deal with an univited guest, as he generally won’t share with anyone but his sweetie, Geri.
Man, these YouTube videos take awhile to load. This one is only 66 seconds, but it took I think 46 minutes to load. We don’t have 3G in Thailand yet but should soon, so maybe that will help.
Speaking of Geri, we think they might be on the nest again. These past couple of days, they’ve returned to coming here in shifts, with Geri coming in the middle of the day.
