Believe it or not, my 2 year old son(turned two at the end of March), was taking a bath tonight with his older sister and grabbed his little crotch and said “Go potty”. Sister called me and he said it again, so I sat him on the big potty - we haven’t even gotten a potty seat for him yet- and he sat there for a few minutes and the next thing I know, he’s pooping away and peed some, too. (Should I save this post and show him when he’s 16?) No clue what possessed him to do it and he probably won’t do it again til he’s 5, but it was pretty cool. Of course we made a big deal out of it and having his sister there to cheer him on was probably the most motivating factor.
He is the third and is the only boy and I know boys are notoriously slower with this stuff so although we’ve introduced the whole concept, this just was very unexpected.
My oldest was about 2 and a half if I remember right (she’s 15 now, so it’s been awhile). I don’t remember using stickers or anything, just a lot of praise for going, and didn’t make a big issue of accidents, just told her to remember next time. She was still pretty young though so it wasn’t time yet to make a big deal.
His next older sister, on the other hand, was well over 3 by the time she got trained. She could do it, we’d been working on it forever it seemed, but for some reason she didn’t want to. One day she got herself in a world of trouble by cutting off all her beautiful long curls. Left nothing but a strip in the back that she couldn’t reach. Mommy was not happy. The next day, she was potty trained without a word from me. Just did it. Two nights later, she didn’t want to wear a diaper to bed and only had a few night accidents after that. I swear she could do it all along and was just saving it til she needed it. It worked, too. Little bugger.
