I’m convinced.
Ooops! I posted the same link twice
my mistake sorry
Havel, Were you enraged by that link or do you agree with it and are enraged by the fact that others (like the U.S. Administration) disagree?
It’s usually a good idea to include some kind of opinion in the OP.
Care to add one?
I’m no fan of Saddam and his regime, but the problem is that USA have a credibility problem. Their ties to Israel and Saudi-Arabia for an example
Yeah, nobody else has ever had ties to countries other people disagreed with.
Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Jordan I’ll grant.
But in what way do US ties to Israel pose a credibility problem? And with whom?
The EU has close ties to all of those countries as well (in some cases closer ties even)… I fail to see your point Havel.2002.
FWIW I thought the cartoon was pretty funny as a satire, but not for the reason you seem to be bringing up…

Oops they kicked out our weapons inspectors in violation of UN peace agreement. That is an act of war. They had an agreement. They violated that agreement when they fired on our planes in the no fly zone. As far as i am concerned we should have gone in 5 years ago. They knew that Cliton would wimp out. Also we must set an example to other arab countries you fund even a dime to terroists we will come after you.
BeatenMan – if we’re invading because they’re funding Palestine, why don’t we invade Saudi Arabia instead? Or, for that matter, Palestine?
If you think breaking UN agreements is an act of war, you might want to read up on how many times the U.S. has done it in the past few decades. It looks like sort of a fake reason when we’ve ignored the U.N. pretty much since it was established.
Live it up peaceniks. I’ll be gnawing on your ribs for sustenance long after you’re dead and gone.
Personally, My somewhat zenophobic position is a matter of “get some of them before they get us ALL”. I fear what may well be coming from the middle east (hopefully without warrant), and am much more concerned with maintaining MY way of life than I am about anyone else’s.
Call me a barbarian, I don’t really care. I just intend to watch out for mine more than I watch out for theirs.
So-o-o-o-o… 'cuz other people have committed wrongdoings in the past, it’s okay for people to do it now?
Hey, check it out… the Romans sacked and pillaged the entirety of their known world (or tried to, anyway)… that makes it perfectly A-OK for the US to do the same!
What so scary about Zen?
BeatenMan and Mr. Cynical… too much ignorance to fight right there.
Probably has something to do with the fact that this isn’t the only expressed reason.
If it makes you feel better, I don’t actually think we should invade Saudi Arabia.
However, I’ve yet to hear a coherent argument for invading Iraq beyond “Saddam is bad and he deserves it”. What is the reason for an invasion, and what is the goal? If it’s self-defense against future terrorism, validating every young Moslim’s belief that we are a dangerous aggressive nation may not be the best way to go about it.
And what have the Romans ever done for us?
On the one hand, I agree with you… a lot of the hype seems to be “Let’s invade because we wanna invade SOMEBODY!” On the other hand, I fully agree with the viewpoint that says we should have taken Hussein out a long time ago. So I’m rather divided on the issue.
And Anthracite…
What really bothers me is that apparently White House Counsel Al Gonzales has been telling Bush that he doesn’t need Congressional authority to attack another country, that he can do it all on his own, as if he were a dictator. (Keep in mind Bush’s little joke that “If this were a dictatorship, it’d be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I’m the dictator.” (Cite: http://www.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0012/18/nd.01.html))
I hope Bush has somebody read the Constitution to him. Or maybe he’ll just unilaterally amend it, like Musharaf.
He’s just trying to finish a job his daddy didn’t. For daddy.
He would be committing political suicide he went to war without talking to congress first, so we can rest assured it’s just posturing.
