On the issue of US casualties and the now famous 1000-1 ratio, obviously that figure is an exaggeration (as DesertGeezer now says) but I think he’s on the right track.
The forces in Mogadishu were a rabble. I don’t think there’s any real comparison.
I heard some US Gulf War vets interviewed the other day about their impressions. They said that they were surprised and impressed by the intelligence and equipment of the Iraqi soldiers but that they were clearly demotivated and fearful and really much more interested in just staying alive (by surrendering) than in battling fiercely to keep Kuwait (about which as I understand it the average Iraqi couldn’t give a shit).
If the US was invading Bahgdad, no prize for guessing how well motivated the Iraqi forces would become. And how they would put their equipment and ability to good use.
