We need a DNC 2012 Thread

I don’t believe you when you say you listened to the speech.

One great part was where he mercilessly mocked Romney for repeatedly stepping on his dick in foreign affairs- where he called Russia our greatest enemy, where he said it was tragic for us to get out of Iraq. I loved the line about how is Romney going to engage with diplomacy with China wh!en he couldn’t even avoid offending our closest ally during his UK visit.

What did you think about the part where he mentioned the troops? How did you think that part went compared to Romney on that same topic?

So, my favorite theme was how America’s strength is our shared unity and purpose as I said above, but I also loved the parts where he specifically clowned Romney and made him look very much like an unprepared little child.

(Honestly, what I’m sensing from you is a severe case of pucking butthole after Obama’s speech and the dnc convention as a whole.)

One of the major differences between the aftermath of Obama’s speech and Romney’s is that we are talking about Obama’s speech. As opposed to at the end of the RNC when people were talking about the empty chair and Ryan’s lies. When I say ‘we’ I don’t mean only the people of this board.

It’s like he’s posting from “The Conservative Right’s Big Book of Cliches”

A neat trick, given that FiveThirtyEight already puts his chances below 25 percent. :stuck_out_tongue: Now, knocking down his chances by 25 percent, I’d believe.

I’m guessing it’s because “Democratic” is an adjective and not an adverb.

To be honest, I thought it was a rather pedestrian Obama speech. He simply lacks Clinton’s ability to put things in terms that Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sixpack can relate to. There were some very eloquent cases made for his second term this week, only Obama didn’t make them nearly as well as Michelle, Clinton, Biden, and Kerry did. Still, it did what conventions need to do- make a good case and fire up the base. Any of the truly small breed of undecideds who watched the conventions have got to be breaking for Obama 2-1 or better.

I was playing the Joe Biden drinking game.

One shot for every, “folks” and drain your beer for every “Ladies and gentlemen.”
Think we could keep it down a little in here today?

So, how was the ride to the hospital?

ADP says we did better than expected, adding 201,000 new jobs, now the Dept of Labor says worse, that we added only 96,000 jobs:

Bizarre note: both written by Steve Hargreaves, apparently the in-house CNN financial guy, about 2 hours apart.

The drop in unemployment was caused because 368,000 people stopped looking for work and therefore were no longer counted in the survey.

“These numbers are not very strong,” said Joseph LaVorgna, chief U.S. economist at Deutsche Bank. “The job market is improving, but only gradually.”

In case anyone else is thinking about continuing the “democrat” vs. “democrats” hijack: let it go. The jobs report is certainly politically relevant but probably deserves its own thread.

The ADP has consistently overstated the number of jobs added per month the last few months. Anyone who thought the U.S. added over 200K jobs in a month was living in a fairy tale.

Anyway, as I said last night, Obama’s speech was weak either because he has given up or he got a glimpse of a disappointing jobs report. Seems like the latter was true.

No, I thought of the Biggie Smalls lyric, “I’m not only a client, I’m the playa’ president!” Of course, Biggie got that from the old Hair Club for Men commercial.

I thought that was a great thing to say, by the way. Just declaring a flat, simple truth…Just stating the obvious with a knowing smile. Nice.

Reagan was the Great Communicator; Obama just makes speeches.

When George Bush landed on the aircraft carrier, that inspired admiration for the accomplishments of our troops; when Obama announced that Bin Laden was dead, that was spiking the football.

Holy Fuck. Reagan was the most overrated president in history. An empty suit and and emptier mind.

When Bush landed on the carrier, that was spiking the football at the 50 yard line. When Obama announced the death of Bin Laden, THAT was Mission Accomplished.

No no no no NO! Don’t you know how many things are named after Reagan? Well, it is a lot. Which means the market has spoken, and he’s great. Greater than Stalin.

As Stalin said, quantity has a quality all its own, therefore Reagan was the bestest ever. What’s Obama got, like an elementary school in Indonesia? Ha!

Big mainly due to the senior-friendly large type…

I’m going to call “Cite?” on that one. There is simply no way that you, or I, or any one individual can know what’s happening with jobs across America. You either trust the numbers coming out of the ADP and the DOL or you don’t. But if you don’t, then you need to support that assertion with some well founded documentation as to why those numbers are inaccurate.
If your analysis boils down to “my gut tells me those numbers are overstated” then I’ll just say that your gut is full of shit.

I responded to OMG’s ESP with the ADP #s, then felt for the sake of intellectual honesty I needed to post the much lower DoL #s as well. But since OMG refers to it as “the” ADP, I think he doesn’t much know what he’s talking about.

Just a clarification, ADPs numbers are not meant to be an estimate of the DOLs numbers. ADPs report is their own experience and records, the DOL is a survey.
