They put on a hell of a live show. And before I saw them live, I didn’t know it was possible for an accordian player to Rawk Out, but he WAS Rawkin’ Out. I encourage everyone to go see the greatest band ever play.
Wooo!

Wooo!
Saw them last night in Atlanta. And it was indeed a hell of a live show. The crowd was really into it.
I was gonna buy one of their CDs, but wasn’t sure which one to start with. Suggestions for a new listener, anyone?

We were there, too! And it was one hell of a crowd!
They taught me that a sailor’s life was very hard and that the food was always bad.

Any chance to see them is a chance well worth taking.
I’d echo *Road Rage * as well, though play is a favourite of mine too.
Up and Play are among my favourites… I need to pick up all the ones I don’t have (the 2 or 3 newest)
But yes, they put on an AWESOME show!
I last saw them live a couple years back and whenever I catch them on TV I stop to listen.
goes to put in a GBS cd
We saw them with a hometown crowd in St. John’s (Newfoundland). Amazing.
My husband got me the Great Big DVD for my birthday!
I like Up and Play best, too. We tend to enjoy the traditional songs more than their original stuff.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!!!
I’m gonna see them next month, probably in Houston and then in Austin the next day. I’ve seen them twice. They are SO MUCH FUN!
Can anybody tell I’m just a little bit overexcited?
I can tell
When Alan Doyle was on the news at noon I wish I’d had more notice… go to see if I could’ve met him. Didn’t know though
I first saw Great Big Sea at one of Blue Rodeo’s outdoor festival shows in Toronto. The amazing thing was that the whole crowd was simply bouncing up and down throughout the whole show. Including me. I’m fat and out of shape, and I can’t bounce without gasping for breath. Yet somehow, while Great Big Sea plays, I can!
Also, I prefer Up to Road Rage as an intro to Great Big Sea.
Alan…sigh…droooooool…
My mom got me into them. This is HER fault. Really.
I’ve never seen them live but I would definitely do so if I ever got the opportunity
I’d never even heard of them until about a year ago when my ship got a Canadian exchange officer well versed in all things GBS…in fact his GBS CDs hardly ever left our stereo! “Barrett’s Privateers” will always remind me of some of the happiest times in my career (sorry to get all maudlin on you!)
Yes, yes, yes, if you like their CDs and get the chance to see them, they’re even better live. Such fun!
My mom saw them in DC, I want to say three years ago, when they opened for the Chieftains. She immediately went out and bought CDs. Then a little over a year ago, at her urging, I listened to said CDs. I fell in love. Then a few months after that, I saw them live. The first time was at a big fundraising concert at the Jackson, Mississippi zoo, and there weren’t many of us who knew them. Alan smiled at me – I’m serious, most of the people around me weren’t half as into them as I was. sigh What great music. What a great smile! Th e next night they played here in New Orleans, and there were a couple of hundred people there, and almost everybody knew them. It was the best concert I’ve ever been to.
Anyway, I’m irretrievably hooked. Less than a month until I see them again!
