We saw monarch butterflies today!

Cool!!

Okay, obviously, my OP was eaten by the hamster. Thing is, we were out doing an errand, and our nine-year-old spotted a butterfly on a bush, and as we stopped to look, we saw about five butterflies all hanging around this bush.

And I just wanted to wish them well on their trip to Mexico.

Where are you? They usually come to pacific grove in Oct.

Cool! I like flutterbys, especially Monarchs. I am wondering also where you are, since they blew through here about a month ago; zillions of them. It was amazing to see so many at one time too, and it lasted for about 3 days.

Well, I’m in New York. As my “location” says, north and west of the city (and I don’t mean Buffalo).

Maybe these guys were late, or maybe they were only pretending to be monarchs. Anyway, it was kinda cool to see nearly half a dozen of them in one spot.

There’s a eucalyptus grove near my place that gets them in November/ December in disturbing numbers. Like, there are so many that they kind of clump up in the trees until they look like huge clusters of hops or grapes or something and cover every surface and you look up at the sky and there’s so many little things moving around that it looks like TV static, but so little sound, but the creepy thing is that there are SO many that if you stop and listen you can HEAR it-- 10s of thousands of little things’ wings flapping. It goes past beautiful and past surreal to vaguely disturbing.

We’re seeing a few in Hershey, Pa. We planted Mexican sunflowers as part of our garden-building project, and it’s been attracting bees and 'byes. I grew up in Ohio, but have been living in the south for almost 30 years until recently, so it’s cool seeing 'em again. Them, and grasshoppers, bunnies and even groundhogs.
