We should re-name the MPSIMS forum to just "Stuff I must share"

MISCELLANEOUS

Dusted.

Maybe Pertinent Stuff I Must Share.

We keep the acronym. Things that are mundane and pointless still fit (Maybe Pertinent, in this csee no) and so does the Ukraine War or death notices (Maybe Pertinent, in this case yes)

This may be a winner!

Miscellanies and Potpourri: Stuff I Must Share
Meandering or Pithy: Stuff I Must Share
Musings, Ponderings, and Stuff I Must Share
Momentous or Piddling Stuff I Must Share

Magnificent Pontifications! Sadly, I Must Share

It depends on how you create the thread. (Note that everything I’m saying is just my opinion.)

MPSIMS is if you want to report the story and just talk about it as a news item. It’s also a general “whatever” forum. (Hence the “stuff” part of the name.)

Great Debates, if you have a debate to talk about. Like, asking the question about whether or not what Dave did should have caused that wrath. Or, should security be increased at those venues. Something people can have a structured debate about.

If Dave was attacked for politically-charged jokes, P&E would work if you want to talk about the politics of his jokes. Or if politicians were taking sides on it, if you wanted to talk about what they were saying, and/or how it aligned to different political factions/philosophies.

IMHO is if you just wanted people to answer a question about what they thought about it. Much the same as GD, but less structured. Fewer rules.

Cafe Society if you wanted to focus on Dave as an entertainer, his career, his body of work, the shows/movies he’s done. and so on.

You could also post it in the BBQ Pit if you wanted to rant against Dave, whoever attacked him, maybe both at once.

You could even do FQ if you wanted to ask about the informed consensus about the issue (such as the biological realities of trans people).

The way you phrase the OP determines which forum it fits into, and the forum you put it in also partially affects the responses to your OP.

Cafe Society, because it’s two entertainers on a TV show. Same deal if it were two athletes at a game, it would go in The Game Room. If it were two politicians on the floor of the Senate it would go in Politics and Elections.

Absent a forum devoted to the topic, then breaking news stories go in MPSIMS.

I didn’t read it that way. It said Dave was assaulted on stage, not by whom. I assumed he was at a stand-up event and an angry audience member (not another celebrity) got on stage. Not that, say, Will Smith was in the audience or anything.

Isn’t the answer to change the Quarantine Zone into Current Affairs? That way MPSIMS can stay as it is.

That’s… a really good idea. We’re not going to need a dedicated COVID category for very much longer and activity in that forum is already flagging.

That doesn’t solve the problem of expecting people to post personal disasters under “mundane and pointless”.

I agree. Since this seems to be the most common complaint, I don’t see how it would solve anything if we don’t lose the mundane and pointless part of the forum.

But then you miss the in-joke that 4 people still get!

Miscellaneous or Personal Stuff I must Share?

Still makes it a catchall, and we keep the acronym FTW?

News in the former QZ, new Current Events, and this is Miscellaneous (IE doesn’t quite fit another category) or Personal information that for whatever reason you feel compelled to share with everyone else.

I don’t see why all the hoops just to keep the dumb acronym. Renaming GQ hasn’t killed it, why would renaming MPSIMS to something else matter?
