We should talk about strokes

After my stent I was supposed to avoid stress, not lift anything heavier than x pounds, and not return to work until after my 5th day recheck.

I went back to work right away, however. At my recheck I was told to wait another day or two then go back to work. I told him I’d returned right after surgery. He acted shocked, I told him it was less stressful for me.

That’s why I signed up for Supplemental Insurance Plan F. It probably wasn’t the best choice, but at least I don’t have to worry about things like deductibles.

It doesn’t cover dental, though. The dentist pulled a wisdom tooth on Tuesday. The cost hurt considerably more than the extraction.

Your dentist didn’t stick the Novocaine in the right place.

I have a prescription for hydrocodone, but haven’t gone to the pharmacy to have it filled.

Glad you got some answers, @Biotop

Really I have more questions than answers. But I see my doctor on Wednesday.

Stutterers also often find clear communication when singing.

Sounds like Jim Nabors.

I should clarify. Not saying he had a stroke but he was a stutterer who sang well.

I had a TIA, a minor stroke, ten years ago, when I was 36. I was in the bath when it happened, called out some gobbledegook, and my daughter found me passed out under the water.

Despite being a minor stroke it did have some long term effects - my speech was affected for a year or so, and my right arm still doesn’t do what I tell it to, though the effects are hard to detect for a doctor because I have other conditions affecting the use of my arms.

I had no risk factors and there weren’t really any lifestyle changes I could make. Haven’t had a full stroke or another TIA since, ten years later.

My arm is not working. It is hard to type. grr.

Do you mean it hasn’t been working ever since the earlier incident, or that it just recently started not working or got much worse?

And if the latter, why are you telling us and not 911?

(That is, tell us, sure. But tell 911 first.)

No it is the same as before. I am just frustrated that since the stroke I have not regained 100% on my arm/hand and it is frustrating. Nothing new wrong with me.

Thanks for reply! and glad you’re not having another event.

I’m glad to hear that nothing new is wrong. I’m sorry that your hand and arm haven’t returned to normal. I identify with “avoiding medical attention” but the older we get, the less advisable it is. Good luck!

Yes, I’m sure that’s frustrating. Talk to your doctor about it and ask for some physical therapy help.
