I was just on the phone queue, waiting to speak to a human, when a recorded voice told me that he was apologising for the longer than expected delay, but to stay on the line, he would be with me shortly.

I then zoned out kinda for a while and I thought he said - sorry for the expected delay, but hey! I like your shoes!

Now that would have made me stay on the line.

I was on a phone cue the other day and I got the voice saying “sorry for the longer than expected delay…”

I thought, if it’s not “expected” then why do you have a standard voice message for the situation?

As an aside - I was on the phone to CASA to enquire as to the whereabouts of my pilots licence 3 months in the waiting :confused:

So was I! I was waiting for my licence to arrive with my most recent Instrument Renewel on it.

Well how weird is that little coincidence?

I’ve been mulling over just how weird it is and I’ve come to the conclusion that it is not so weird.

Sure, on the face of it, we are two complete strangers from anywhere in the world who happen to have had a similar experience talking to the same organisation for the same reason.

However, I know Cabdude, admittedly only as a poster on the SDMB, and I know he is an Australian pilot. CASA are currently going through a process of issuing photo licences and/or Aviation Security Cards for Australian pilots. There have been numerous delays in the process as they don’t have the staff to cope with the demand. Pilots are therefore likely to experience delays with anything related to their licence and are also likely to phone CASA to enquire about it.

The chances of two random pilots in Australia having just dealt with the CASA phone menu is quite high then.

For those wondering (as I was until Googling a minute ago), CASA stands for Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Australia.
