I was recently contacted by some group trying to get me to sign on and petition for some cause or other - this is not the first such cause. And I got to wondering whether there has ever been any petition from this program that was actually successful in changing government policy in any way.
[Note: from a purely technical standpoint the cumulative effect of many “successful” petitions was to change government policy WRT the “We the People” program, in that the threshhold for getting a response was raised to 25,000 and then to 100,000. This doesn’t count. :)]
