I saw him several years ago. He and his group did a powerhouse of a show. He was funny, crazy, energetic.
And his parents had died less than a week earlier. He’s a “show must go on” kind of guy. Quoted through his publisher, he said that performing(until the funeral) kept him from crying.
From his albums I already knew he was a talented singer, musician, and writer. So the thing the surprised me most when I saw him in concert is how well he can dance.
I saw him earlier this year with my 11 year old daughter - he did a great show, and I think we are both now fans for life! . He and his band are awesomely talented musicians as well as great performers. Definitely worth seeing.
They did do the “vocal gymnastics” during one song - it may have been “Yoda” - I don’t recall which song it was now. That was pretty impressive just on its own - “tight” is indeed the word for it.
You know, Al is said to be an extreme perfectionist - maybe we could flush him out by badly mis-stating something about him, forcing him to spring out of the bushes and correct the mis-conceptions.
I saw him years ago. He puts on a great live show.
Looks like he’s coming to Cincinnati, but the show’s going to be at King’s Island. That sucks. It costs way too much, is ways to crowded, and the open air middle of the day setting kinda diminishes the show. I’d rather see him in a concert hall.
Of all the things…He’s playing Friday in Pigeon Forge. Not Memphis, not Nashville, not Chattanooga, not Knoxville. He’s playing at the equivalent of a wart on a frog’s ass.
Weird.
I’m seeing him September 20 in NYC…I’ve seen him about 15 times in the past, on every tour (including the 5 show 2002 tour) since Alapalooza, and they put on a FANTASTIC job.
I just got back from his Washington DC show, and it was fantastic. Opened with a polka medley, encored with “Albuquerque”, and everything in between was incredible.
Darth Vader holding up his lightsaber and swaying it back and forth like a lighter, during the Star Wars song - priceless.
