I’m going to the Sept 3rd show at the State Fair. I tried to talk my friends into buying the tickets to guarantee us seats, but they just want the free general admission seating. I intend to let them ride rides or whatever while I get a spot early. I’m not missing out on nerdiness because my friends are cheap!
I am totally bummed that we missed him at the Ohio State Fair. Just couldn’t make it work out logistically what with having a newborn and all. Sigh. Maybe next time.
However, I did do some snooping around YouTube and I think this is the “vocal choreography” people have been talking about:
Is the current list all of the tour dates or will more be added?
The website regularly updates with more tour dates- usually at least once a week. I’m hoping he adds a date in Missoula- otherwise, this will be the first tour I’ll miss since I became a concert-going fan, which was back in 2000-ish. (Unless I can get a ride to Spokane to see that concert.)
I saw him on a lark, with a friend who liked him as well. We were floored by his show!
The band was doing a “Live or Let Die” number that neither of us had heard before. When he said “Chicken Pot Pie” we almost lost it.
The guy gets into every single costume he’s ever worn in a video throughout the whole show.
Worth the price of admission and much more for Al fans.
Odd that Weird Al and Penn Jillette would have the whole “never tasted alcohol, never smoked a cigarette” thing in common. I love 'em both.
The Live and Let Die parody is pretty old, but since Paul McCartney is a vegetarian he’s never given Al permission to release the song on an album. It’s one of his many concert-only songs.
because Al isn’t?
yes to both questions; apparently he’s added some shows since I posted the link in post #18
Al has stated that just because he’s a vegetarian doesn’t mean he can’t sing about eating meat products- certainly he doesn’t have to get beheaded to sing A Complicated Song or be Obi-Wan to sing Saga Begins. (From the Ask Al archives: “I also sing about decapitating people, but I don’t advocate that either. I need to stress once again that my songs aren’t autobiographical, and just because the words are coming out of my mouth, it doesn’t mean that I’m expressing my personal views. It’s just a joke, folks.”)
Paul, apparently, doesn’t have the same sense of humor about food songs.
… he’s not Obi-Wan?
Anyone for a NYC Al-Dope-Fest?
I’d love to - but I can’t get into Manhattan on a Thursday
I recognized part of the “vocal choreograhphy” as the Tiki chant from Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room at Disneyland! I’m starting to get excited! Only 2 more weeks!
I found at at 7.30 I was going to be able to go to last night’s show at the Warner Theater in DC. By way of information I should say that I did not really know any of his stuff, bar a few memories from the dim and distant past, and I was operating on 2 1/2 hours sleep.
That said, it was fun. I found the show to be a little hit or miss, probably because I thought the video clips were generally rather annoying. But I don’t regret going at all. I’m not sure I would buy myself a ticket to go in the future, but if I got another freebie I would probably take it. The extremely eclectic audience generally seemed to love it though. I did feel for the mom with seven 8-or-so year olds (I am presuming not all hers, maybe a birthday party) just in front of us, who was wincing at the rather adult nature of some of the material.
I dropped in this thread just to say, as a hip-hop fan, I consider White and Nerdy a hell of a lot better than the song it parodies, Ridin’ Dirty. As a matter of fact, I don’t really consider Ridin’ Dirty hip hop at all.
