I wish you could teach my girlfriend that fine art. She had two wrecks within a month an a half… she adamantly claims that she was at fault in neither. THe first is debatable… but the second isn’t:
Her: A car pulled out 5 cars ahead of me, and everyone slammed on brakes. Except the SUV in front of me. He just pulled into the other lane and went around everyone without even tapping the brakelights. There’s no way I could have stopped in time.
Me: So you were following too closely.
Her: NO! I COULDN"T STOP IN TIME!
Me: If you couldn’t stop in time after GAINING an SUV-length, let alone a carlenth. Then either you were following too closely, or you weren’t paying attention.
Her: YOU JUST DON"T UNDERSTAND.
Me: Apparently the cop did! Good luck contesting that one.
Rt. 1 in Wells, ME? I was just there last week, so I can testify that yes, the traffic is horrible.
Glad to hear you’re not seriously injured, I had a pretty bad accident myself almost two years ago, totaled the car, but thankfully no one was injured (kinda weird, actually, that much damage to the car and we were all fine, thank God for seatbelts!)
Well, hope you have as painless a recovery as possible, and try not to scream when that insurace goes skyrocketing!
I saw a car accident happen he other day on the way to work, and it made me again realise how easy these things can happen, and for people like us on the net, we’d of ten never know if something seriously tragic had happened to some of our regulars.
Hope you get lots of rest and relaxation with Quietgirl. No, I mean it. Rest. Relaxation. No funny business. You hear?
Glad to hear you guys came through in one piece, in my EMT days i saw all too many times that people were not so fortunate.
Even with seatbelts on you probably took less damage from than the deploying airbag than you would of from contact with the steering wheel, these things bleed off alot of the force from secondary impacts in car collisions.
In agreement with Katiekilldare I applaud your honesty in this matter. I have a friend who has wrecked 3 cars and 2 motorcycles in 6 years and in my opinion only 1 might not have been his fault and that one he was going 75+ in a 40 zone and someone pulled out in front of him gee maybe if he wasnt going twice the speed limit he wouldn’t have crashed. If you ask him its because everyone else wasnt paying attention, I try to ignore that all 3 cars he thrashed were him rear ending someone hard.
All my accidents have been rear ending people. One hydroplaning, one me being an idiot. Glad to hear you all came out with all the bones in the right place. Speedy recovery.
andygirl, I’m glad you’re all OK. I’m not gonna send you hugs, but that’s only because I don’t want to hurt your bruises…you still have to put up with the well wishes :).
I’m also glad (again) that I don’t have airbags. I’m short & close to the steering wheel & I always wear my seatbelt (ever since the age of 8 when my mom did an emergency stop & I hit my head on the top of the glove box, just missing the windscreen - being short can be an advantage). A friend of mine got their nose broken & some nasty stuff done to their arm by the airbag when driving at about 5 mph in a carpark & the silly metal flaps on the exit decided to deploy under his car, so I know they can be dangerous.
