We who have seen Iron Man 2, salute you!

We’ve got Thor and Captain America coming up, in 2011. That gives us at least four Avengers and the Hulk. I don’t know if the Black Panther, Wasp or Dr. Pym will be involved, but I’m doubtful about Ultimate Hawkeye - while he’d be awesome, I think he might be too violent for this series of movies.

Thor next year.

Ooooh…Captain America…
“When Captain America throws his mighty shieeeeeeeeeeld…
All those who have come to oppose his shield must yieeeeeeeeeld…”

Not sure about Thor…however, a movie with Val Halla from Dexter’s Lab might be fun…

Fury said they would only use him as a consultant.

It’s a movie with a god of storms, thunder and war as a protagonist. If they’ve got half a brain, the visuals should be awe-inspiring.

That’s kinda my point - they COULD get it right…but they may over-do it with the SFX and leave the story in the dirt…

They have Robert Downey Jr already under contract to appear in The Avengers. Marvel would be fools if they didn’t greenlight a script that features a lot of awesome Tony Stark snark.

Given the people involved, that might be difficult. I doubt they’d let you get away with that.

Part of my concern with Thor is, well, he’s THOR…Everyone else is either a normal guy enhanced by technology, or a normal guy afflicted with Science Gone Wrong™…Thor is a Norse God…how are they gonna work THAT in?

He only thinks he’s a Norse God?

I got nothin’.

…by having him be a Norse god? There’s no reason they can’t put mythology and magic into the Avengers universe. They’ve never said it doesn’t exist, we just haven’t seen it yet.

So there’ll be no female leads in The Avengers? Don’t they kinda have to do that?

I think the argument is that any human characters would be grossly outmatched by an actual God of Thunder in the Marvel Movieverse.

I can’t say I disagree right now. Hopefully they don’t blow it when Thor comes out next year.

Richard Herd told a bunch of us at Dragon*Con last year, “You wouldn’t believe how many roles I’ve gotten because I was willing to work cheap.” The one he specifically mentioned was his uber-evil corporate exec in The China Syndrome, which he got offered because the original actor insisted on more money than they were willing to pay.

Cast list for the movie:
Idris Elba … Heimdall

Anthony Hopkins … Odin

Tom Hiddleston … Loki

Jaimie Alexander … Sif

Rene Russo … Frigga
That’s some collective insanity there.

I just read that it was released early overseas so it wouldn’t have its opening weeks compete with the World Cup. From The Hollywood Reporter:

Thor is next. They found his hammer after the credits. They had a Captain American comic book and shield also in IM2. I missed it, but I read that the news footage from The incredible Hulk was playing in the background behind Nick Fury at one point.

How did the Captain’s shield get into Tony’s lab?

Black Widow will likely appear.

Kenneth Branaugh would not be directing if they wanted just another popcorn flick.

I’m guessing it will turn out to be a prototype weapon Tony built for the armor which he gives to Cap once he defrosts.

The contract may be very limited in how much RDJ is required to do. Or it may be extensive. It may simply say he has to “appear” and that they need to work around his shooting schedule for other films (which frequently becomes a contract out when timing can’t be worked out) or it may require him to commit months to the project on their schedule and their terms.
