Web Comic Recommendations

I am looking for on-line comic strips.

Two that I have really enjoyed are The Order of the Stick and Questionable Content. (Both found by following links from the SDMB!)
I like strips that have a continuing story line and crisp, clear, sharp artwork.

Any suggestions?

This sort of thread is like my own personal Batsignal.

A few months back, I posted this thread, which was a more-or-less comprehensive list of the webcomics I read at least semi-regularly. For you, I’ll stick to the highlights, based on what you said you were looking for in your OP.

Cat and Girl has got that indie vibe and clever humor of Questionable Content, but with a more literary/intellectual bent. No over-arching storyline, though, more of a gag-a-day thing.

The link isn’t working for me right now, but Digger is a great stroy-based strip about a talking wombat and her difficulties with dieties. It’s on a pay site, but honestly, the three bucks a month is worth it just for this comic. The art is just about the best I’ve ever seen.

Girl Genius is one of my favoritest webcomics ever. It’s a steam punk epic by fan-favorite artist Phil Foglio, and probably the single most frequently linked-to webcomic on the Straight Dope.

Home on the Strange is another QC-like comic. That link goes to the first in the series - the art gets much better later on. Which, come to think of it, is also a lot like QC. It’s themes are more geek-oriented than music-oriented. Lots of jokes about RPGs and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Magellan is the best superhero comic out there right now. And by “out there,” I don’t just mean the internet. The story’s been building for three years now, and it looks like it’s finally heading towards a climax, so now’s a great time to jump in.

Something Positive is just about the most fucked up comic out there. That link goes to the first one. If that doesn’t make you instantly love it, run far, far away, because it only gets darker and more misanthropic from there.

Scary Go Round is sort of like Monty Python, except it’s wierd. Very funny, story-based webcomic, with a very distinct ear for dialogue.

Lastly, Narbonic just finished it’s five year run. It’s a three-panel, gag-a-day comic with a great over-arching storyline. The art’s pretty rough at first, but it shapes up nicely by the end of the first year.

Try Gunnerkrigg Court, Sam & Fuzzy, and Erfworld.

Sluggy Freelance.

Very silly, bizarre and very, very funny.

safe, non-naughty

Naughty-er, but no nudity in the comic

the story of a major corporation owned by & run for Super Villains.

Weekly, posted Fridays. Very strange.

Epic is too right. I’ve been following this religiously lately, and I’m continually stunned by how excellent it is. The plot is among the best I’ve seen, although Erfworld and Order of the Stick are competing for that spot as well, and the actual writing is absolutely top-notch. The art is polished and highly engaging. It’s a comic that really shouldn’t be a free webcomic at all. I know I’ve paid for much worse in the past.

Casey and Andy has gone dark, but the 645 archived strips are worth reading.

If you want to support it, there are dead tree editions available on Amazon.

Avoid the omnibus edition.

Or you can buy them directly from StudioFoglio, through the comic’s website.

http://www.uglyhill.com/ I like this one a lot.
http://www.sheldoncomics.com/ Sheldon is another good one.

xkcd is a very nerdy/math oriented web comic. It’s my new favorite. Classic examples include this one, and this one.

Perry Bible Fellowship is a very clever comic. It’s not about any particular characters, just random things, usually with a funny twist in the last panel. My favs are this and this.

If you have ever roleplayed (and I think you’d have to, to really get OOTS) - then Goblins is for you.

Others not mentioned - Starslip Crisis - great B&W Sci-Fi comic

Schlock Mercenary - the best SciFi comic I know - and the author has never missed a day for years, 24/7. If you know webcomic, you’ll know that’s like hen’s teeth.

and [url=http://www.pennyandaggie.com/]Penny & Aggie[/ul] - teen angst, like a ultra-modern Betty & Veronica. I like it.

Penny & Aggie

A Miracle of Science is a good sci-fi comic, with a single plot stretching the full length of the comic ( it’s completed ).

Goblins is a good one if you like RPGs like Dungeons and Dragons, and probably if you don’t ( although you’ll miss some of the jokes ). It tends to swing between humor and being very serious, with a fair amount of graphic violence.

There’s Schlock Mercenary, the sci-fi strip I take my username from. And yes, the artwork does get better as the strip goes on.

Edit : I should have previewed more; MrDibble stole two of my picks !

Oh, well, here’s the webcomic version of War of the Worlds.

A couple of closely related ones: Zortic and Melonpool Both of them feature alien spaceship captains who love Earth TV shows, thus are full of references to Star Wars, Star Trek, etc. Characters from one keep appearing in the other.
Then there’s Ozy & Millie

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

Guess I should have mentioned that I like them to be funny,I checked out the first 5 or 6 Girl Genius strips, not funny.

Started in on Home on the Strange,I think I’m gonna like it.

Penny Arcade if you’re a gamer. Pure Genius.

A few favorites that haven’t been mentioned yet:

The Adventures of Natalie Portman
Buck Godot: Zap Gun for Hire (an earlier strip by the same people who do Girl Genius, which they have just started releasing online)
Multiplex
Shortpacked!
Tex Arcana

The Adventures of Dr. McNinja

The Holy Bibble

Penny Arcade

And not really a webcomic, but entertaining nonetheless:

The Brick Testament

I’m surprised nobody has mentioned User Friendly. That link takes you to the first one, like a lot of the other comics, the art gets better as it goes on. Much IT/Techy humor to be found there.

I still stop by Dilbert every day and it’s usually good for a few laughs.

Ink Tank is the archived home of Angst technology and a couple of other comics. The author has since gone on to other things in his career, but the comics are all still archived and a lot of fun to read. Ink Tank is about a game development company.
