Web designers - is Lightbox overused? & other image viewer scripts

(For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about you can see it is use here )

Lightbox is spiffy for sure, but it’s got a distinctive look. I’m making my portfolio website and I’m not sure if I want to use it or use a different script that isn’t quite so distinct. (My teacher showed this one, which I like)

So should I go with the tried and true Lightbox or try to find something that isn’t to widely used?
Before someone says ‘well, make it in Flash and then you can do anything you want’ - I don’t know Flash.

I like that high slide quite a bit, but the way it embeds its name in every photo is annoying.

Could I suggest you find a script that makes it easy for visitors to link directly to a photo? I suppose you might not actually want people to do that, but it annoys me tremendously when normal functions of the Web are obfuscated. If I really like one picture in particular, I want to be able to give someone the URL to load it directly.

Considering it’s for my personal portfolio, no, I’d really prefer people not to be able to take my images, although with Lightbox you can just right click and select view image.

And yeah, watermarks are bad. I think the latest version doesn’t do that.
