Most of those seemed pretty common sense except for the first one which made me guffaw.
And what does this mean: “You don’t masturbate in public, so don’t plug your stuff off-topic.”
That has no meaning to me whatsoever, but I can read it several different ways and find it amusing, but none that really make much sense.
Some people can be particularly obnoxious when it comes to flogging something they’ve done. They’ll come into threads all “Hay guys! I know you’re talking about fishing, but did you see my AWESOME flash-movie about cute unicorn-kittehs111!! tell me how much you liked it lol!” They seem to get off on having attention/comments made about their work, it’s a kind of mental masturbation in public - forcing people to indulge their fantasies about how awesome they are, when there’s really no call to even be mentioning whatever it is that they’ve done, because the two topics are not even remotely related.
Thanks for the explanation.
Perhaps I’m just not bringing any examples to mind, but I don’t remember seeing this happen here at the Dope. People would be flogging them so badly for being off-topic that it would hardly seem worth it. . . .especially if it got so bad they got Pitted for it.
Is it prevalent here and I’m just missing it?
I love that site - thanks for the link, NDP. I like the Internet Safety Tips - “Whatever you try, it is not possible to un-see something.” Excellent advice that I try to adhere to.
It’s not something that happens here all that often, Heffalump. The entrance fee and the higher calibre of posters tends to drive those sort of people off.
Ah, good to know. That’s not something that I’d be missing. It sounds pretty annoying. Well, unless we got to Pit them. . .that might be kind of fun.
