Websites you check out every day

Here, obviously
Go Fug Yourself (if you’re into celebrity fashion this site is delightful. Absolutely hilarious)
CNN
My local newspaper (Tampa Bay Times)
Opacity (photos of old abandoned buildings and such)
IMDB if I’ve watched a movie or one of my favorite tv shows
I Can Haz Cheezeburger

Wall Street Journal
Boingboing (although I’ve been skipping this increasingly)
Slashdot

I used to visit Fark (how I found this site) and Something Awful, but no longer. Although I’ve been thinking of buying an SA forum membership.

Daily:
Yahoo
SDMB
goodreads.com for book reviews and recommendations
My local library website
Some job search sites
I make occasional forays to:
Amazon
Politifact
Allrecipes
NotAlwaysRight.com
Zappos

I love my library site so much. I go there several times a day just to metaphorically roll around in my hold requests like Scrooge McDuck in his vault. Monday is the day new orders are listed in the catalog, and I get to add to my wealth.

Zappos is an interesting one…I like to go there and shop for shoes. It’s kind of soothing. The twist is that I never ever buy any. But I might!

Hilarious, and apt, description.

SDMB (my favourite).

International Skeptics (formerly James Randi Educational Foundation) – not unlike SDMB, but more narrowly focused on “fighting ignorance”, and a lot less branching out into “anything and everything” – I go there most days.

To redress the balance – or have myself thought highly weird – the Fortean Times Message Board.

Until recently: a board which – not wishing to overly traduce – I won’t name, but which tries to promote good etiquette and good and and gentle-personly behaviour. Much good stuff on there, and many very nice people participate (and much nice non-etiquette-related “fun stuff”); but it’s an outfit which is highly moralistic in a conservative way – it’s very easy to get, inadvertently, on the wrong side of them – and the moderating can be savage and, at times, partial / partisan and rules-breaking. A few weeks ago, I (after some previous episodes of chastisement-and-repentance) seemingly thoroughly fell foul of the partisan / rules-breaking thing there; so I’m done with them.

I thought you would understand.

I’m hearing this in Donald Trump’s voice:

I am luxuriating in my luxurious hold request list!

Facebook
Twitter
Amazon (to check the sales figures for my books)
Lileks.com
Email

Obviously this one, CNN, BBC, Scientific America, Popular Science and Popular Mechanics, Audible (just to see if there are any new audio books or good reviews) and a couple of more obscure ones like Skeptical Inquirer and the JREF Forum and a few porn sites I won’t go into the details for.

ETA: I also check my Linkedin account usually a couple times a day.

Bike EXIF
Pipeburn
RideApart
Revzilla/common tread
ADV Rider

Woot. I might only buy something every year or two, but I always check.

Previously.tv (ever since TWOP shut down the forums)
Straightdope
Facebook
CNN

Besides the Dope and Cracked (which I see has been mentioned), I also like to go to Mental Floss.

Email
ADV
54
Gariffe
Una
Shovel board
SDMB
Pprune
Ello
My bank
5 Weather sites
Picasa photo hosting site
Wind map
& a few others every other day or so.

  • do not read every thread at any place.
** read whole threads of those I post in 80% of the time. ( not game or joke or that kind for the most part )
Post process any pictures I have taken which is usually every other day.

All these responses, and only ***one person ***admits to PORN!

This is why silenus has always been one of my favorites.

I check here, my email and Epic Fail just about every day. Porn now and then, when I won’t get caught. But its sooo hard to find!

With all the free porn on the web, who checks out the same site every day?

I forgot about weather web sites. I generally check the Weather Channel every day (and email, of course, though I don’t consider hotmail or OWA to be answering the question), and also, now that I think about it, YouTube. I have a bunch of subscriptions like Vsauce, It’s Ok To Be Smart, Test Tube News, MinutePhysics, This is Genius, CrashCourse, various comic book sites, Game Theorist, CinemaSins/Screen Junkies, How it Should Have Ended and Scott Manley’s thread…there is almost always something new, or I’ll check out game play for Company of Heroes 2 or some other game I’m wanting to see, check out, or get info on.

I’m probably old enough that I don’t worry about what folks think of my porn habit at this point. But you know most of the rest are checking out porn daily as well…this IS the SDMB after all. :stuck_out_tongue:

raises hand I do. There are a bunch of pretty good (free) sites that also have higher standards of sorting their stuff so that you don’t get a lot of spam, popups or other nasty surprises (generally…I recommend lots of anti-virus, firewalls and the like, and still expect to be infected so don’t use your computer that you shop with to surf porn).

A really cool History forum/discussion board people here may like:

It’s not a daily check, but I like Damn interesting.

It’s a collection of well-written stories of oddities and interesting events.

I like it so much, I tossed them a $20 back when they were asking for donations.

They also podcast, which are just versions of their articles read aloud.
