Wedding season sucks.

(Raises hand timidly) I’m… I’m getting married on December 28th. I assume that’s good, right? We specifically want it to be cold, and not in Wedding Season.

Sounds like ours… except it’ll be at a friend’s house, because it means we can limit guests more effectively, but still have close friends… many of whom live in far-off places like Arkansas. (We’re in Toronto, Canada.)
Lessee… I’m making my wedding dress, so it won’t be perfect. My fiance wants to wear a sword. We’re having a 21 year old flower girl. And the photographer is an artist friend, only shoots in black and white, and is doing it for free. (shrugs) I think we’re doing okay at not having a normal wedding, so far. And we’re kind of doing a group honeymoon, with all the close friends we’re hauling from distant locations going up to Ottawa together.
Everyone else is much more excited about it than we are. It’ll be a good party. It won’t be the marriage- being married will be the fun and exciting part.
Sorry- rambling…

We have a pianist/composer friend who’s doing the music… hopefully a lot of Debussy. (shrugs) I think we’re doing okay at not having a normal wedding, so far. Airman and I are also getting married May 24th. We’re having it at the courthouse, followed by a nice dinner. Our families will be there, plus any additional people who feel like showing up. That’s it. My dress is a very nice lilac and floral-print thing (I kinda feel funny wearing white in my current state), nothing fancy.

I’ve never been much for the all-out wedding from hell. I see no reason why we should ask my parents to go thousands of dollars in debt so I can have a formal wedding.

Robin, who got her syphilis test drawn yesterday so she can get the marriage license.

MsRobyn, why would you need to get tested for syphilis before you get married? Will they not allow you to marry if you test positive? totally ignorant stare

She’s getting married in Mississippi, which has the highest rate of syphilis in the country. They require blood tests on everybody who wants to marry in the state. I’m not sure whether you can get married if you test positive but I know the test is required.

Mr Honey and I were married on a Thursday evening in October 1989, in front of a Justice of the Peace. After the ceremony, we took 8 members of our family out to our favorite restaurant. Then we left on a 3 day honeymoon to Quebec City the next day. It was intimate and wonderful and we only spent about $1000.00 on the wedding and the honeymoon combined.

I knew it. I’m reading this thread, thinking… “Twenty buck sez this guy is within two years of 25.”

It’s a law of nature. From 23-27 ALL of your friends will get married, and it’s likely… you will too. It’s your LIFE that’s in wedding season, not all of us, babe!

Somebody soooo owes me twenty bucks…
