Weed goes legit - would you toke up?

I’m not against legalization (with regulation), but I’m not interested in doing it myself.

Ditto. And I become super-antisocial.

I’ve tried it a few times but I really have no interest in doing it again. It could be the low grade ditchweed I was able to sample from my friends but I just simply cannot stand the smell of it. All other effects aside, the odor is so vile that it just isn’t worth it to me. As far as those effect go, I’d describe it as a low grade beer buzz with the added benefits of sore throat, nausea and (currently) possible prosecution.

Another issue is just what “legal” means? If it’s legal then I may not be subject to criminal prosecution but my employer currently requires drug testing after any on the job injury requiring a trip to the ER or hospitalization. If they find evidence of weed in your system then you’re fired. No argument, no debate, you’re gone before you walk out of the hospital. This isn’t prosecution, it’s corporate policy. Would this business practice be legal or not?

I’m in favour of full legalisation of all narcotics but I wouldn’t try them.

I’m curious about it but like some of the others, the smoking part is right out.

How much is it these days? I kind of remember some friends mentioning the price and I was shocked, shocked, I tells ya.

When I was growing up a nickel bag would get you about 8-10 joints, and an ounce was $20.

Nope, never been interested.

However, I do believe that it should be legal. I just don’t want to have to smell it everywhere.

I think it should be legal. My first roommate at university was a toker, and stunk up the place so much that I ended up spending many nights at the studio or friends’ apartments. So I would never smoke it, legal or not. Non-smoked versions… I dunno.

Pretty much this. I doubt it would be worth trying more than once, but I’ve always been curious.

Actually, there are quite a few of us. I love grass, but haven’t indulged since I became a teacher. The risk is just too high (so to speak). Any illegal drug use of any sort would cost me my credentialing. Were that not the case, I would probably take up the Wonderful Weed again.

It sounds silly, but I’d probably use it. Not to get high, but as an aid to putting on some weight. I need something to boost my appetite, and the few times I’ve smoked some weed, I really did get the munchies. One time I busted open a bag of chips and ate them in the aisle at the grocery store.

No, I think its pretty gross, like cigarettes. I’m all for legalization however, as I don’t see why other people should forgo their pleasures if it doesn’t affect me.

Fuck if I know. I haven’t bought weed in like 10 years, but even then, nickel bag was largely a dated expression, as $5 would get you little more than a smattering of dirt weed. I almost never smoke now, primarily because I’ve got plenty of other vices that are far more fun to me than smoking weed, and when I do, I’m bumming. The cheapest person I know (the woman won’t pay more than $30 for a haircut) buys a shitload, so it can’t be that bad. Or maybe the prices have skyrocketed and her priorities are out of order. Maybe I’ll ask.

Nope - I have in the past, but I also smoked regular cigarettes in the past - I’ve learned that for a variety or reasons, I can’t smoke anything, because weed, and the feeling of smoking, would make it easier for me to justify smoking tobacco cigarettes again.

Now, that wouldn’t prevent me from eating baked goods with weed in them, were it legal.

Me. I could get it easily enough- god knows, enough of my outer circle of friends are small-time dealers that I cringe to think how many times I, through my car, have been an unwitting drug mule- but I’ve put myself on a policy of turning it down lately because I’m unemployed and really, really don’t want to miss out on a job because of weed. If employment weren’t at stake, I’d be much more comfortable smoking.
ETA: For everyone who’s asking about current street prices, I believe it’s $40 for an eighth of an ounce around here. I’ve never purchased, though, so I’m not positive.

Sheltered life, mate. These days, I wouldn’t know where to pick up the good ganja, though I could probably just ask my neighbors. I know it’s around–big growing operations are getting busted all the time, and the local functional glassware company does very well–but acquiring the devil weed is a little out of my usual social milieu. When I was in grad school or working a shite job, no problem. Now, a bit tougher.

Ah, there’s that. My employer doesn’t screen for drugs, so I don’t have to worry about that.

Sharing time: The good news about one of my friends quitting drinking is I have a designated driver. The bad news is she smokes a lot more weed now, and at times has it on her person. Cue to maybe a month ago, I was in a car with her, and a spider crawled on me. I proceeded to lose my shit (I am deathly afraid of spiders) and when we got to a stop light, I jumped out, shook the spider off, and likely appeared to be a crazy woman. After I was safe, she commented something like “Well that was a lovely little freakout. I only wish there were more cops around to come over and discover the weed in my purse.” Oh yeah. If you have weed on you, you can’t do weird shit.

Edit: Stu, if you live in MN… just sayin…

I hope not. I’ve never tried it, but have always been quite curious about it. And yes, the fact that it is illegal has absolutely deterred me.

I make it a practise to stay away from all mood-altering drugs unless absolutely medically necessary. (Pain relief after surgery, etc.) This practise has been in place unbroken for almost a quarter century now, and I’d hate to give that up over mere curiousity.

I decided to look it up on google. Since there are no “official” price lists, readers responded from around the world with their local prices. Their answers are somewhat incoherant. Not sure why.

One answer I read was $400/oz. That’s quite a jump from the $20 that I remember. But I understand that the quality is also much higher.

Are you sure about that? So many teachers smoke, I assume they could work something out if they got caught.

I’m a lawyer, and smoke pot about once a month. If they want to take my bar card for that, they’re in for a fight.
